HS Game of the Week: Conestoga (PA) vs. Darien (CT)
Another match up from the "Checking for Cancer Lacrosse Invitational" at the Haverford School featured Connecticut's Darien against Conestoga of southeastern Pennsylvania.
The Pioneers came out of the gates strong, and despite a second-half surge from the Blue Wave, Conestoga was able to put this one away, 10-6.
Editor's Note: Conestoga in white, Darien in blue.
Although Darien lost the game, number four (attackman) and number 49 (goalie) were really impressive. Conestoga didn't have any standouts, or so it seemed, but they played very well as a team. They also looked fresh with the new K18 arm pads and gloves.
I heard that. His name is Case Matheis, though. The kid had an unbelievable shot at 1:29. If he can get a little bigger, he is going to go anywhere he wants. As for the goalie, he did struggle low, but the kid was big time on the high heat. He does not drop down on those low to high shots and he had a couple of nice saves where he fought off some sick shots. He is going to Cornell next year, according to Lax Power...
Of course he will get a little bigger, but even if he did stay around 5'7" or 5'8", he could probably go wherever he wanted. Such a tough, crafty player, great around the crease. Workaholic too.
Case is first freshman to start all games at Darien. D played well in second half but could not win a face off. What happen to D#6--he was 2/4 on face offs in first half and we never saw him again?
Really? Looked bad on opening faceoff against #7 Ryan Buttenbaum (lehigh?) But he had a nice rap check at 1:43 against #7 and looked fine and held his own in first half. Ryan had his way in the second half.
from what I read on the inside lacrosse rising sophomore and maverik showtime comments section, Case Matheis seems to be the most talked about attackman (perhaps player) in his class. Rumor has it he is already receiving interest from all of the big name programs.
conestoga - 9, 28, and 5. 9 was definately the best player for them, but 5 was a great feeder and 28 had a fast shot.
darien - 22, 4, and 49. 4 is a quick shifty attackmen who can finish the ball in tight. 22 can carry and survey the field. 49 had some clutch high saves, but low he wasn't very good.
