A four-goal effort from Stephen Keogh propelled No. 2 Syracuse to a 12-6 win over 12th-ranked Notre Dame in BIG EAST men's lacrosse action on Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd of 4,063 fans at Arlotta Stadium. The Fighting Irish conclude the regular season with a 7-6 overall record, including a 2-4 mark in BIG EAST play.
Notre Dame used six different goal scorers in the contest. Nick Beattie had a team-high three points on one goal and two assists. The crowd was the largest ever to witness a Notre Dame men's lacrosse game at home and the first to see the Irish fall to a dominating Orange team.
Sean Rogers continued Notre Dame's uprising on a goal with just under three minutes elapsed in the second half. A man-up score from reliable Zach Brenneman with 9:45 remaining in the third quarter again narrowed the deficit. The Irish could nto maintain their momentum and made a number of mistakes on which Syracuse capitalized. The Orange responded with tallies from Josh Amidon and Jeremy Thompson to claim a 7-4 lead midway through the third period. Prior to the Amidon goal, the Notre Dame defense held Syracuse scoreless for a stretch of 24:48. Notre Dame would not quit as goals from seniors Grant Krebs and Neal Hicks put Notre Dame back to within one score (7-6) with just over three minutes left in the quarter.
Syracuse scored the game's final five goals, including three man-up tallies. Cody Jamieson gave the Orange a two-goal lead (8-6) after three quarters of play. Two goals from Keogh and additional tallies from Amidon and Tim Desko in the final quarter produced the final outcome.
Orange goalie John Galloway made eight saves, while Notre Dame senior Scott Rodgers had nine stops. The Irish out shot the Orange 32-30.
