TRINITY HIRES WILLIAMS AS SOCCER AND LACROSSE ASSISTANT COACH

HARTFORD, Conn., Sept. 5 - Matthew Williams (Brighton, Mass.), an All-American and an Academic All-American athlete while at Colby College, has been hired by Trinity College as an assistant coach for both men's soccer and men's lacrosse. Williams will assist Head Coach Ed Mighten in soccer and Head Coach Mike Darr in lacrosse.

The soccer team posted a best-ever 13-4 record in 1999 and reached the finals of the ECAC Division III New England Championship Tournament. The men's lacrosse squad had a 9-5 record and earned a bid to the ECAC Division III Championship Tournament.

Williams graduated with honors in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in American studies from Colby, where he was a four-year letterwinner and captain as a senior in both soccer and lacrosse. He earned All-New England lacrosse honors in 1998 and all-conference (NESCAC), All-New England, All-American, and Academic All-American honors in lacrosse in 1999. Williams is the all-time leading scorer in Colby men's lacrosse history.

Williams, who is pursuing a master's degree at Trinity, enters the coaching field after spending the past year as a licensing associate for Commonwealth Financial in Network in Massachusetts. Originally from Cape Elizabeth, ME, he will serve as a graduate assistant within the Trinity athletic department.
