 | Hewitt and Turner-The 2 Best In The Country?
| by Naptown Fan (#136419) on 3/10/07 @5:00PM | I think it is possible. However, Schwartzman for Hopkins would get some consideration from some people, I'm sure! I didn't see the game today, but I saw all 3 of those goalies play last weekend, and each made some awesome saves!
This may not be the only time we see these 2 teams play this season! If they met in the playoffs, though, I would pick Princeton any day of the week. When it comes to playoff games, Tierney owns Starsia in their meetings. | | | Reply to this

| | | Tierney's Best Coaching Job Ever
| by Naptown Fan (#136419) on 3/10/07 @7:43PM | That came in 2000 in the Final Four against Virginia. Princeton was very young, and UVA had a loaded team, led by Conor Gill, Jay Jalbert, and Ryan Curtis. Virginia had a 4 goal lead in the 4th quarter, but Princeton came back and won by 1. People blamed the Virginia goalie, but I disagree. I think that Tierney outcoached Starsia so badly down the stretch it wasn't even funny!
Don't get me wrong-Starsia is a great coach. However, he is nothing compared to Bill Tierney, except as a recruiter.
If these 2 teams meet again, it could be deja vu. | | | Reply to this

| by STABS LEFTY 15 (#138386) on 3/12/07 @7:21PM | hewit is probobly the #1 goalie closely followed by kip turner and jesse schwartzman.
not that the pros is that major right now, but hewit would be a better keeper in the MLL.
but kip's stance is pretty crazy but he manages to make the saves. in the game princeton gave him some of those saves | | | Reply to this

 | UVA and Princeton-Top 2 Coaching Staffs In Country
| by Naptown Fan (#136419) on 3/10/07 @5:06PM | | I think so! Princeton has Tierney, the best ever, and Associate Head Coach Dave Metzbower. Virginia has Starsia, maybe the best recruiter ever and underrated as a game coach, and Associate Head Coach Marc Van Arsdale. I don't know if there are any other schools right now where the top assistant has the title of associate head coach. Both Metzbower and Van Arsdale are in their early 40's so I wouldn't be surprised if both stay at their current schools and take over the reigns after Tierney and Starsia, respectively, call it quits. | | | Reply to this

| | | | How sweet of you!
| by Naptown Fan (#136419) on 3/10/07 @6:40PM | | Thanks a lot! It is so cool when you wish someone misfortune! There are a lot of people in the world I don't like, but I never wish them misfortune. If you don't like my posts, freakin' scroll down! It just takes a second. It is sad how a lot of you just give me heck for my opinions and don't even talk about lacrosse. Do you guys have fun being negative and criticizing? Like I have said, you all and Simon of "American Idol" would make a great team! | | | Reply to this

| by Naptown Fan (#136419) on 3/10/07 @9:21PM | That is cool! Like I said before, that is awesome that the "War On The Shore" is returing to the Shore. M&T Bank Stadium is a great venue, but the war has got to be on the Shore every year.
P.S.-I am a Gettysburg grad. I know that we have a bit of a rivalry with Salisbury. You guys have won a lot of titles. We are probably the best program ever in DIII who hasn't won one yet. I wonder if that will change someday.

 | What is the capacity of UVA's stadium?
| by Naptown Fan (#136419) on 3/10/07 @7:59PM | | Does anyone know? I have never been there, but it looks like it seats somewhere from 4,500 to 5,000 people. With the success of the lacrosse team, I wonder if they will decide to make it bigger someday. The size of their crowds are pretty impressive, considering that the area is not a hotbed for lacrosse. Schools like Hopkins and Navy get large crowds, but they are in areas where there are lacrosse fanatics all over the place. | | | Reply to this

| | | | Ben Rubeor is awesome!
| by Naptown Fan (#136419) on 3/10/07 @9:13PM | | Not only does he get a lot of points, but he gets them in clutch times, too. If he keeps this up, he will be a leading candidate for National Player Of The Year. I remember him in 2001, when he was a freshman at Loyola Blakefield in Baltimore. He was a star on their MIAA title winning team, and everyone knew that he had a big-time future. Boy, were they ever right! | | | Reply to this

 | defense wins championships
| by STABS LEFTY 15 (#138386) on 3/11/07 @11:41AM | | both defenses for UVA and Princeton played excellent. kip turner and alex hewit played exceptional also; both with 10 saves. both teams had to keep it in several times (no suprise with princeton) and was a well played game by both teams. i could see both these teams in the championship or semifinal game depending on how the brackets end up. | | | Reply to this

 | Sorry to change sports!
| by Naptown Fan (#136419) on 3/11/07 @12:13PM | Now that March Madness is here, I feel that it is time to say that Georgetown's basketball team reminds me a lot of some of Princeton's early to mid 90's lacrosse teams. Georgetown hoops plays awesome defense, and Princeton's lacrosse teams back then had an awesome defense, led by players such as goalie Scott Bacigalupo, maybe the best ever, and defenseman David Morrow. Georgetown hoops has good offensive players and plays a ball control game and does a great job working the clock. Princeton's lacrosse teams back then had great offensive players like Andy Moe, Justin Tortolani, Scott Reinhardt, Kevin Lowe, Taylor Simmers, and Scott Conklin, and they ran the same kind of offense.
With this type of game plan in lacrosse or basketball(smothering defense and ball control offense), if a team executes it real well, it takes the other team, which usually plays more uptempo, out of their game. It is especially dangerous when a team that plays this way gets a large lead.
In 1992, very few people thought that Princeton had a shot to win it all. However, they quieted the doubters by beating North Carolina 16-14 in the semis and Syracuse 10-9 in double overtime in the title game.
This Georgetown basketball team is ranked in the Top 10. However, I don't think that many people are picking them to win it all! Could this be deja vu all over again.
P.S.-Of course, before coming to Georgetown, John Thompson, III was the basketball coach at Princeton. | | | Reply to this

| | | | Kevin Durant=the Carmelo Anthony of this year?
| by Naptown Fan (#136419) on 3/13/07 @10:48AM | | I'm not trying to turn this into a basketball chat, but the fact that you mentioned Texas and that you are a 'Cuse fan makes me think of something. I just talked to a good buddy of mine, and he thinks that Kevin Durant, the super freshman from Texas, will carry the Longhorns on his back to the title game just like Carmelo Anthony did 4 seasons ago. However, he has Texas losing to Wisconsin in the title game. | | | Reply to this
