Cortland, N.Y. - The No. 5 Ithaca men's lacrosse team (6-0) scored three goals in the span of one minute in the third quarter to break open a close game and went on to an 11-8 win over No. 2 Cortland (4-1) Saturday afternoon at the Stadium Complex.

Sophomore goalie David Gal (Loomis Chaffee/Amherst, Mass.) made a career-high 22 saves in the game and freshman attackman Tom Mongelli (Kinnelon/Kinnelon, N.J.) had three goals, also a career-high.

The Bombers built a 4-0 lead in the first quarter as senior Chris Carman (Monte Vista/Alamo, Calif.) opened the scoring on an assist from senior attackman Alec Siefert (Duxbury/Duxbury, Mass.). Mongelli scored his first two goals of the game and junior Nick Heckman (Sparta/Sparta, N.J.) capped the run with an unassisted goal.

Ithaca's lead was 6-5 in the third quarter when senior attackman Kevin Bush (Arapahoe[Colo.]/St. George Island, Fla.), senior midfielder Matt Ruhnke (McMahon/Norwalk, Conn.) and Heckman tallied within a minute to stretch the lead to 9-5.

Fourth-quarter goals from Carman and Siefert helped seal the victory for Ithaca.

The Bombers are 6-0 for the second year in a row and have won two of the last three meetings against Cortland. Ithaca hosts Alfred in its Empire 8 opener Wednesday at 4 p.m on Upper Terrace Field.
