Lax.com Rising High School Games of the Week, April 17, 2017

Apr 17, 2017
It might be difficult to believe, but this week’s Lax.com Rising High School Lacrosse Games of the Week highlights teams that are coming close to the end of their regular seasons.   While much of the country is just ramping up or maybe just starting conference play, some teams in Colorado, Texas and California are in the back half of their regular season.   Some of those games are potential playoff previews and in Colorado’s case, a meeting of Final Four teams from last year.   Elsewhere, look for an elite East Coast-West Coast matchup taking place on Long Island, and perhaps one of the biggest games of the year when the Hill Academy and Culver Academy meet in the Midwest.   Stay tuned for when we post the highlights from the Massapequa vs. Smithtown Game highlights tomorrow. We will also be covering the Lawrenceville vs. Brunswick game on 4/19  with highlights which will be posted on 4/24.
Regis Jesuit (Colo.) vs. Mountain Vista (Colo.), April 18 regis jesuit hs lacrosse Regis Jesuit has not lost an in-state game since it dropped a 6-5 decision to Cherry Creek on April 14, 2016 — a streak that spans 16 games. The Raiders have won three consecutive games overall since losing back-to-back games to California powers at the end of March. Mountain Vista already faced two of last year’s Final Four - coming away with losses against Arapahoe (Colo.) and Cherry Creek (Colo.). They get one shot at the Raiders in the regular season this year, but this kicks off a four-game stretch in which they face three of last year’s Final Four as they finish the regular season at Cherry Creek and at Arapahoe.   St. Ignatius Prep (NorCal) at Chaminade (N.Y.), April 18 St. Ignatius Prep Lacrosse St. Ignatius Prep embarks on a daunting swing through the East Coast and finishes up against Chaminade, the No. 7 team in the most recent USA Today High School Sports Super 25. The Wildcats play Landon (Md.), Garden City (N.Y.) and Chaminade in the span of three days before heading back to California to finish out the regular season. Since dropping a 14-11 decision to Torrey Pines on March 11, St. Ignatius has won eight straight. Chaminade has won four straight since losing its first game of the year to Super 25 No. 5 McDonogh (Md.). The Flyers defeated conference rival St. Anthony’s (N.Y.) 12-6 and have eight days off before facing St. Ignatius Prep. Watch the Highlights from when these two teams played last year.    Cherry Creek (Colo.) vs. Arapahoe (Colo.), April 19 cherry-creeek hs lacrosse Cherry Creek has not lost since it dropped a March 15 game at Regis Jesuit, so they come into this game possibly riding a six-game winning streak. They have to get through an undefeated Columbine (Colo.) team on April 15 first. The Arapahoe game starts a three-game road trip before finishing the regular season at home. Arapahoe has rebounded since losing three-consecutive games to finish March. Now the Warriors have won three in a row, including a one-goal game against Kent Denver (Colo.). This is their second meeting with Cherry Creek this season. They lost 21-5 in the second game of the year on March 22.   Dallas Jesuit (Texas) vs. Highland Park (Texas), April 21 dallas jesuit hs lacrosse A rematch of THSLL Division I championship game from 2016, the Scots and Rangers meet for the first time this season (if they meet again it will be in the playoffs). Both teams have tested themselves this season with out-of-state opponents, but looking at a common opponent might provide some insight on how this game could play out. But, maybe not. Both teams played undefeated The Woodlands this season and both teams lost by two goals. Highland Park’s defense might get the edge after holding Woodlands to nine goals, but Dallas Jesuit scored nine versus Highland Park’s seven. Highland Park has been without Syracuse commit Owen Seebold for a few weeks, but could possibly return by the time these teams meet.   Poway (SoCal) vs. Torrey Pines (SoCal), April 21 poway hs lacrosse After winning their first 10 games, Torrey Pines has faced a tough stretch and lost four of five. They traveled to Colorado for games at state powers Cherry Creek, Mountain Vista and Kent Denver before travelling back home to prepare for Poway. Poway has won six-straight games, including a 14-4 win over Palos Verdes (SoCal) and Monte Vista-Danville (NorCal). The Titans play Loyola-Los Angeles (SoCal) three days before meeting the Falcons for their rematch of last year’s San Diego CIF Open championship game.   Culver Academy (Ind.) vs. Hill Academy (Canada), April 23 culver academy lacrosse Arguably the best two prep programs in the nation meet in Michigan. The Pride have won 32 consecutive games and are the No. 1 team in the USA Today High School Sports Super 25. The Hill has one game on April 22 to shake off a 21-day stretch in which they did not play a game. Culver is coming off a six-game run in which they played five games on the East Coast. The Eagles won four of those games, dropping only an 8-7 double-overtime game to Haverford School (Pa.). The Eagles play at Detroit Central Catholic (Mich.) the day before meeting Hill Academy.
