By 3d Rising Staff   This week’s Lax.com Rising HS Games of the Week features a meeting of champions in New York, a game that could impact the overall national rankings by the end of the season but immediately puts Upstate bragging rights on the line between Syracuse and Rochester.   Other major games are on tap nationwide, including clashes of titans in Virginia and New England in addition to the Texas state championships, which feature two exciting Division I semifinals the day before the finale.   Elsewhere, look for action to heat up in Maryland as the MIAA A Conference approaches the backstretch of the regular season, bringing us an assortment of key games, including a meeting this week of currently undefeated powerhouses Calvert Hall and Boys’ Latin.   Boys’ Latin at Calvert Hall (Md.), May 9 In what will be one of the most important games of the MIAA A Conference slate this year, the Lakers travel to meet the Cardinals in a showcase of two teams currently undefeated in conference play – the only two such teams remaining. Both teams defeated reigning champ McDonogh by narrow margins and are looking to earn the top seed in the upcoming playoffs. Both squads will have two MIAA contests left following this heavyweight matchup of teams currently ranked in the USA Today High School Sports Super 25. Each team is loaded with Division I-bound talent, including Calvert Hall’s JT Bugliosi (Ohio State) and Boys’ Latin’s Matt Brandau (Yale).   St. Anne’s-Belfield (Va.) vs. Collegiate School (Va.), May 9 St. Anne’s-Belfield comes into this meeting with a three-game winning streak against Collegiate. The Saints got the best of the Cougars in both meetings last year, which helped propel them to the VISAA Division I championship game. Looking at one of their common opponents, Norfolk Academy (Va.), the Saints could be favored. The Saints lost 16-15 while Collegiate lost 16-9. But in this rivalry, no one team seems to take the advantage for an extended period and that makes it all the more entertaining. St. Anne’s Belfield features a bevy of college-bound players, including highly regarded sophomore attackman/midfielder Connor Shellenberger (Virginia).   Avon Old Farms (Conn.) at Deerfield Academy (Mass.), May 13 Two of the top prep programs in the nation meet for the only time this season and kicks off a tough four-game stretch for the Winged Beavers. Avon Old Farms meets Brunswick School (Conn.) on May 10 and then travels to Deerfield and Taft School (Conn.) before coming home to face Salisbury School (Conn.) Avon is 11-0 this season with wins against Belmont Hill (Mass.) and Gilman (Md.), but eight of the teams on their schedule currently have sub-.500 records. Deerfield recently lost by one goal to Taft School and way back in its first game of the year to Brunswick School, but has dominated the remainder of its schedule. Both teams are ranked in the USA Today High School Sports Super 25 and this has become one of the biggest games of the year in New England.   Victor (N.Y.) at Jamesville-DeWitt (N.Y.), May 13 The defending Class A and Class B champions meet for the first time since 2015 for one of Upstate New York’s most anticipated games of the season. Victor was in the midst of its 50-game win streak at the time of the last meeting and came out on top 11-9. The meeting before that, in 2014, Jamesville-DeWitt won 17-13. Victor did not lose a game again until its 10-9 loss to Brother Rice (Mich.) on April 23. The teams meet owning only one loss each so far this year. The Red Rams attack duo of Ryan Archer (Hobart) and Griffin Cook (Syracuse) has combined for 161 points thus far.   Episcopal School of Dallas (Texas) vs. The Woodlands (Texas), May 13 One of two Texas High School Lacrosse League Division 1 semifinals, the Eagles will look to end the Highlanders impressive run this season. The Woodlands, out of the Houston area, is 23-0 after a 9-6 win over St. Mark’s in the quarterfinals. Episcopal won its semifinal matchup against Kingwood 15-6. The Eagles were ousted by the Highlanders in 2015 and then got revenge last year in the quarterfinals. One of the longest winning streaks in Texas is going to end in this game. The Woodlands is 23-0. Episcopal Dallas enters the game 17-0. The Eagles have one of the top players in the nation in Nakeie Montgomery (Duke). The Woodlands roster features Division I-bound defender Grant Murphy (Syracuse).   Dallas Jesuit (Texas) vs. Highland Park (Texas), May 13 The second of the two Texas High School Lacrosse League Division I semifinals, this is a rematch of last year’s state title game, a contest the Rangers won 9-4 in impressive fashion. Dallas Jesuit advanced to the finals for the second straight year thanks to a hard-fought 8-5 win over Westlake from the Austin area in the quarterfinals. The Fighting Scots had to get by Westlake out of the Austin area and did so by a score of 8-5. Injuries have thrown Highland Park off at times this year, but the Scots look to avenge last year’s state finale loss and have experience on their side as several players were key members of the Scots 2015 state championship team. In goal, Dallas Jesuit is led by standout keeper Luke Millican (North Carolina). Owen Seebold (Syracuse) has registered 17 points in the last two games for Highland Park, including a nine-point performance in the quarterfinal win over Kinkaid.
