The first quarter started off slow with both teams playing very tentatively. It was Penn State who first broke the ice at 12:38 on a goal by Will Driscoll asssisted by Don Mayerhofer, giving them a 1-0 lead. However Navy would retaliate at 11:18 when Mike Sheedy scored on a quick shot that caught Garrity by surprise. Navy then won the ensuing face off and started to run circles around the Lions defense, scoring two goals allowing them to take a 3-1 lead into the second.

It didn't take long for McKinnon to find rope in the second, when he quick sticked a Conklin feed at 14:36. Next in line for Navy was Perry Taylor who ripped one from the top of the box that blew past Garrity's shoulder. After Taylor scored Brendan Power figured it was his turn, and added a goal of his own to cap a six goal run. However to Penn State's credit they battled back and picked up a goal 2:22 off of a beautiful low to high shot by Eric Wood.

Navy started off the third the same way they did the second, with an offensive explosion. The first to score for the Mid's was Brendan Power, he was followed by Mckinnon and Brianas extending the lead to eight. It was at 2:04 when Penn State defenseman Mike Herscha lived out every defenseman's dream, when he walked down the field, beat two middies and stuck one in the upper left leaving everyone speechless. But the crowd seemingly found there voices again at :11 when Andy Beal riffled a shot over Garrity's shoulder to end the third. The fourth quarter was surprisingly won by Penn State as they out scored Navy 2-1, however this rally was to little to late.

Story of the game: Eddie Mckinnon with four goals and one assist really stepped up and became a leader. Also Navy's defense led by goalie Mickey Jarboe looked invinceable.
