Even with the perfect weather and a senior day ceremony that filled the air with positive vibes it would be UPenn that strikes first. PJ Gilbert found himself with time and space after he beat his man from behind; when he turned the corner he ripped a shot high and hard to make it 1-0 UPenn. Maryland answered right back with a goal of their own as freshman long pole Ryan Clark found Joe Walters on the doorstep to make it a 1-1 game. After penalty killing on both ends of the field Ian Healy put Maryland on Top as he stepped down and finished a low hard shot from about 8 yards. The quarter ended 2-1.
The second quarter was the beginning of the end for UPenn. They started of strong tying the game up as DJ Andrezejewski drove again from behind and found Luke Dixson 10 yards that finished high, keeping UPenn's hopes alive. Maryland took the lead again with an unassisted goal from Billy McGlone; a strong drive to his right hand and an equally strong shot made it 3-2. UPenn tied the game again as Jimmy Riordan drove the his man from the left wing and snuck a shot inside pipe on veteran goalie Tim McGinnis to make it 3-3. A man up opportunity was the start of domination for the Terp's as solid ball movement found Ian Healy with enough time to fire a shot upper corner to make it 4-3. Maryland went on a tear after that with goals from Justin Smith and Joe Walters both goals coming off the vision of Billy McGlone to make it 6-3. A man up goal that delflected off the stick of UPenn's Alex Salihi made it 6-4. The quarter ended 6-4.
Half time didn’t do much for UPenn, as the third quarter was a sea of red,white, and black. Joe Walters found JR Bordley on the crease to start off the third quarter. Two minutes later Walters would find Dave Matz splitting to his left hand and ripping a bounce shot to make it 8-4 Maryland. After the Defense of Maryland gobbled up the UPenn Man up unit Joe Walters found a wide open Billy McGlone and Bill took full advantage with a hard bounce shot that beat UPenn’s goalie far side to make it 9-4. The Maryland offense couldn’t be stopped less than 2 minutes later Billy McGlone found Justin Smith for his second goal of the game to make it 11-4. The third quarter would end with Terps scoring 5 unanswered goals.
Even with the score running away UPenn didn’t give up and Luke Dixson found himself picking off a pass in front of the goal and finishing a one on one opportunity. It didn’t take long for Maryland to answer back after Billy McGlone drew the double team he found Brendan Healy, Healy made a great handle and ripped it low to low to make it 12-5. Maryland opened up the bench and with some new faces on the field Maryland showed that the future is looking bright as Terence Dorsey beat his man and found Bret Caretsky backside to make it 13-5. Game over.
Maryland’s Defense played superb as usual with Tim McGinnis making 14 saves, Chris Passavia, Lee Zink and Dave Wagner holding UPenn to only 5 goals. Billy McGlone ended the game with 2 goals and 5 Assists for his best game to date and Joe Walters continued his incredible season with 3 goals and 3 assists.
