Slop-Fest Part II

T.J. Durnam started the scoring at 13:32 after he converted a Craig Schubert feed to put Duke up 1-0. Maryland's Brian Zeller answered when he beat Breslin over his right shoulder from twelve yards out. Chris Malone then put the Terps on top when he pulled a spin move and shot as he turned, 2-1. Mike Morsell made it 3-1 when he converted a Mike Mollot pass. That's how the first ended.

Terrence Keaney scored a sensational goal to bring his team within one in the second: while on his knees and being mugged by two Maryland defenders, he managed to get off a one handed fling that beat McGinnis (the fantasy league king) and got Duke within one at 3-2. Duke then tied it up with a great goal by T.J. Durnan -- while off to McGinnis' right, down low, he looked like he was going to pass up high. Instead he turned and burned one in the upper right.

The second half started out even slower than the first. Maryland finally broke the tie when Matt Urlock ripped one that trickled through the compacted Breslin, 4-3. That was the only scoring in that quarter due largely to outstanding goaltending on both sides.

In the fourth things opened up a bit. Maryland's Mike Lamonica made it 5-3 before Nick Hartofilis scored for Duke with one of his canons. He can bring it full tilt with either hand. The teams traded goals the rest of the way until it was 7-6. With a minute and thirteen seconds left Chris Hartofilis, Duke middie, clotheslined Mike Mollot, leaving his team down for 30 secs. Maryland ran out the clock and with it the game. Next up for the Terps is UVA on Sunday for the ACC title.

Side note: Duke's players are so big they look like they could make up a decent Ivy League football team.

I think both teams were evenly matched. Both teams were playing incredible defense. And the field was awful which didn't help one bit. Pat McGinnis played an awesome game. I think Maryland might have some trouble tomorrow against Virginia but might be able to win. Good luck Terps!!
