 | MLL over NLL by tylacrosse97 (#202236) on 2/11/09 @10:06PM | | | | NLL sucks anyway. i'm completely upset over this...i use to work a little for the barrage, and it's a shame and disappointment to see em go especially because of the fact that there is no ownership. i would much rather have the NLL go down the drains before the MLL, but maybe that's just me. | | | | | Reply to this |

After last year with no owner and no home field and stuff, their organization probably made no money at all. But SF or the machine I had not been expecting. Funny because its true, all we did hear last year was this and that about the growth of the sport. It is a cryin shame though. | | | | | Reply to this |

 | (no subject) by PA Lax11 (#72283) on 2/12/09 @7:59AM | | | | This just ruined my day. I was really hoping Philly would find a buyer somewhere. And to go back to just 6 or so teams is depressing.
Side note: If the MLL hasnt stated which team (SF or Chicago) is folding, isnt it better for the fans if you refrain from reporting based on speculation? I mean if I'm a San Fran season ticket holder (assuming there are any) I might by unnecessarily upset right now. Maybe I'm just wishing that the damage wont be as bad as it appears right now. | | | | | Reply to this |

 | Where do they go? by doylax (#168201) on 2/12/09 @9:07AM | | | | Where do the players on these teams go? Are they available to be picked up? This could mean some stacked teams. | | | | | Reply to this |

 | Barrage by DenisonBigRed (#211684) on 2/12/09 @12:58PM | | | | A real disappointment after supporting the Barrage all these years. The Villanova site was great but then they moved the team way too far out for fans, leading to low attendance. I’m assuming CN8 won’t show any more games now that Philly/NJ are gone.
The style of the league: open, run and gun, played in the summer is awesome, old-school stuff that we all miss and wish we could do. It’s better than the college game these days and far better than the hockey they call indoor lacrosse. I hope they figure this thing out.

 | i cant believe it by luke2639 (#186989) on 2/12/09 @5:05PM | | | | lacrosse is the most amazing sport. screw the NLL. the MLL is way better by far, and for that many teams to fold, it just sucks. i just met anthony kelly at a local lax store, and now looks like hes screwed. i hope these teams come back later when the economy is better. sad sad day. | | | | | Reply to this |

 | the economy is partially the reason by dougm (#5616) on 2/12/09 @6:29PM | | | | but the presumed folded teams - esp philly & nj - have had horrible attendance for years. its not the nll, its not the recession, its just that teams were in an unresponsive market. the boom years didn't have a positive impact on their attendance so don't blame their demise soley on the recession.
one has to wonder re: la & sf if the costs of maintaining a west coast outfit is worth it. chicago is still here? man, they count fans their hundreds on a good night.
the rattlers also ran afoul of stadium problems much like philly did. also, the owners problems with his ahl franchise - the nll & mll expenses were relatively mild in comparison if the reports are accurate. the new boss of the knighthawks is not believed to be interested in a field operation but i do feel if there is one team that the recession is laying out, its the rattlers.
denver & boston are just great sports towns, long island has its games when it looks like they could draw 4-5k a night. annapolis should do well for the bayhawks - if that doesn't work, pro lax in the corridor is just not gonna work. | | | | | Reply to this |

 | this by erock2412 (#80529) on 2/12/09 @10:41PM | | | | yeah .... this is a terrible blow to the lacrosse community but the MLL was in a poor market and it was almost "too soon" for professional lax. college lacrosse is booming with more and more teams sprouting up. for example, the big east conference will bring in more and more teams with more recruiting benefits and the big east schedule; more conferences will follow this patter as more behind strong programs. in a couple years as the competition as a whole gets better, and there is a greater pool of players, there will be a greater pool of fans to support the MLL, its not completely done | | | | | Reply to this |

 | (no subject) by GoDukeLax (#167651) on 2/21/09 @7:59PM | | | | What the MLL needs to do is try to not only do away with the dumb rules such as the 2-point line, the weird crease rules for diving shots and try to stay true to the way that lax is played in college. The only rule change of theirs that I like is the shot clock, because watching teams like Hopkins just play keep away and get five stall warnings in the fourth quarter just isn't fun to watch. It'd also be a smart idea to try and merge with the NLL or something of the sort (that is without turning it into an indoor league). I'm not really worried about the MLL though because even the NFL had tons of teams fold in their early days. its only a matter of time before they start to pick up a little bit of speed. | | | | | Reply to this |
