Notre Dame and Dartmouth were evenly matched in the beginning of the game with the Irish scoring first when Grant Krebs took a pass from behind, dodged and converted 35 seconds into the first quarter on an extra man opportunity, the first of three opportunities for Notre Dame. A the 11:12 mark, Duncan Swezey rolled the right pipe and went low to beat Big Green Mike Novosel. Dartmouth responded two minutes later with a goal on a crossing pattern from right to left by Tim Daniels, who beat Irish goalie, Scott Rodgers to make it 2-1. Dartmouth tied the game next, winning the ensuing face-off. An Irish penalty for pushing gave Dartmouth their only extra man opportunity and Jimmy Mullen fed Ari Sussman, crossing in front of Rodgers from left to right. 2-2.
That was all the Irish needed to respond. Notre Dame scored the next 5 goals in under two minutes to go ahead 7-2, and the fifth goal was scored by Krebs taking the ball off the face and motoring down the left side and using an angled overhand shot. Dartmouth retaliated with two quick scores from Kip Dooley and Colin Delaney to close the gap to 7-4, the latter coming when Delaney picked off a poor clearing pass of Rodgers and. Zach Brennenman for Notre Dame gave the Irish a goal to go up 8-4 and the end of the quarter. Dooley scored again for the Green at the 13:22 mark of the second to narrow the gap to 8-5, but to no avail. Notre Dame had its way with Dartmouth, scoring seven straight goals in the second quarter while winning all of the face offs in the second to close out the half 15-5. On faceoffs, Trever Slippery went 13-4 and Jake Marmul went 8-5
Notre Dame scored twice in the third period to increase’s their lead to 17-5 and the reserves went in. Dooley again beat Rodgers and found the net to gain his hat trick and Nick Beattie was fed by Kevin Cullinane to round out Dartmouth’s scoring. Irish senior goalie Scott Rodgers had 8 saves and is now 3-0 in the nets as a starter. He was replaced by Brendan Moore for the last 8 minutes of the game. Notre Dame hosts North Carolina next week at the Loftus Center.
