In a difficult weekend for two of the Major League Lacrosse teams who were still vying for playoff spots, the Charlotte Hounds took down the Rochester Rattlers in a knock-down, drag-out fight to the finish, 15-14. In Ontario, the Long Island Lizards fell flat against the No. 7 Hamilton Nationals, but due to the Rattlers' loss, secured the final slot in the MLL Championship Weekend.

The Lizards simply could not muster the strength to overtake the Nationals at any point during the matchup this Saturday, despite their opening score. Hamilton took it to 5-1, with four points being scored in just two minutes in the first quarter, and the writing was on the wall.

The deluge of points continued throughout the game - the closest the Lizards ever got was a five-goal margin. After completely dominating the field for 45 minutes, with the score at a comfortable 13-8, the Nationals laid it on thick with a final crushing blow to end it 18-8.

In North Carolina, the Rochester Rattlers fought valiantly against the Charlotte Hounds for the chance to compete in the playoffs. After the Rattlers scored three unanswered goals in the first, though, the Hounds took over and put five away in response. To end the first, the Rattlers traded back two to tie it up.

The next three quarters saw the teams edging each other out, but neither could take it away without falling to a rally from their opponents. When time was called, the Hounds led the Rattlers by a single point, 15-14, which devastatingly ended Rochester's season.

Week 14 saw the field a bit more balanced, with (most of) the trailing teams taking home wins for their fans and ending their seasons a bit better than expected. Two weeks to the champions' round.
