| U.S. women's lacrosse set to face Australia in Stars & Stripes tournament Friday, September 14, 2012 11:10:48 AM Lacrosse Magazine reported on Wednesday that this October, the U.S. women's lax national team will meet with Australia for the first time since the Americans' FIL World Cup victory in 2009. While the major U.S. rival in the men's world is Canada, the women's ongoing duel with Australia is unquestionable. Next month, in the highly anticipated Stars & Stripes tournament, which will be held in Palo Alto, California, the two top international teams will face off yet again. Team USA has just finalized its roster for the defense of the cup, which will take the players through 2014. Despite a number of injuries and retirements from the women on the 2009 team, the Americans seemed determined and hopeful in interviews with the magazine regarding the match. Head coach Ricky Fried said, "Obviously, possessions really important. We're going to throw a lot of different looks out there. We have a lot of confidence in the people not only inside the circle, but outside the circle." The Stars & Stripes tournament, sponsored by U.S. Lacrosse, will feature two other international teams from Canada and England, as well as three collegiate teams: two from California and one from Japan. It will be the first major showing for the new women's lacrosse team and is set to take place from October 3 to 7. The event will also feature training sessions from the U.S. women that will be open to the public. For ticketing information and the schedule of matches, which should be announced in the next week or two, fans rooting for Team USA can visit U.S. Lacrosse's website. |
