|Holy Cross Names Dan McKeon Assistant Men's Lacrosse Coach|
WORCESTER, Mass. - The College of the Holy Cross has named former Siena assistant coach and 2009 Albany graduate Dan McKeon as an assistant men's lacrosse coach, as announced by head coach Jim Morrissey and athletic director Richard M. Regan, Jr.
"I am pleased to welcome Dan McKeon to the Holy Cross men's lacrosse coaching staff," said Morrissey. "Dan brings instant credibility to the program with the experience he has gained as a Division I goalie at the University at Albany and as a coach at Siena and Union Colleges. It also does not hurt that Dan learned the fundamentals of lacrosse from one of the greatest lacrosse coaches of all time in Mike Messere of West Genesee High School. His knowledge of the game will have a significant impact on our players and I expect him to have a major role as a recruiter."
McKeon spent the 2012 season as an assistant coach at Siena as he coached the goalies and face-off specialists, while he also assisted the defensive coordinator. He coached Siena goalie Tom Morr who was awarded the 2012 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. Siena went 11-5 overall as it won the MAAC regular season title and reached the MAAC championship game.
For the 2010 and 2011 seasons, McKeon was a volunteer assistant coach at Union. He coached goalie Sean Aaron who earned 2010 third team All-American and 2011 second team All-American accolades. Union won the 2011 Liberty League championship and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
As a four-year member of the men's lacrosse team at Albany as a goalie, he appeared in 42 games. As a sophomore he played in 18 games as the Great Danes won the America East championship and made a NCAA quarterfinal appearance. McKeon was also a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
A native of Camillus, N.Y., McKeon attended West Genesee High School as he was the starting goalie in 2004 and 2005 as the team won the New York state championship both years. He earned 2005 first team All-Central New York honors, while he was named to the third team in 2004. McKeon was a member of the 2004 Central Empire State Games team which won the gold medal.
McKeon was a Sociology major with a minor in Business Administration and graduated from Albany in 2009.
