|Might the University of Maryland leave the ACC to join the Big Ten? The Washington Post, ESPN, and other media outlets are reporting that the university has been in talks about the move and that an announcement could come "within days."|
If Maryland, a charter member of the ACC, does in fact decide to change conference affiliation, it appears that Rutgers might depart from the Big East and head to the Big Ten as well, which would give the conference 14 members. Maryland would have to pay a $50 million exit fee to leave the ACC; for Rutgers, the minimum exit fee would be $10 million.
