Junior attack Morgan Cheek posted a nine-point game and junior goalie Robert Shaw posted a career-high 21 saves to push Harvard men's lacrosse team (3-0) past UMass (0-3), 11-7, Saturday afternoon at Jordan Field. The last Crimson goalie to record 20-plus saves was Bryan Moore (23) on March 25, 2015 against Albany. Junior Joe Lang and freshman Dalton Follows added two scores apiece. Senior captain Ryan Norton and sophomore defensemen Jonathan Butler scooped up three ground balls apiece, as Norton caused two turnovers. The Minutemen were led by Tyler Bogart's two tallies. D.J. Smith made 10 saves. The Crimson ripped out to a 4-0 lead after back-to-back individual efforts from Cheek, followed by two dishes by the junior to teammates Nigel Andrews and Follows. The Minutemen answered with the first goal of the second quarter, but Cheek found a diving Lang to push the goal differential back to four at the half, 5-1. Peter Blynn found the bottom left corner of the net to open the second-half scoring, but UMass answered with three-straight – including two by Bogart – to pull with two, 6-4, with 14:46 to play in the fourth quarter. Follows scored on the man up to stop the rally, but UMass continued to creep closer, registering three of the next four scores to pull within one, 8-7, at the 5:06 mark. Cheek delivered a perfect pass to Ryan Graff in front of the net, starting a three-goal Crimson rally to secure the win. For the full, archived Ivy League Digital Network broadcast, click here.
