Marist came in at no. 3 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll with
34 points. The Red Foxes were behind defending champion Quinnipiac (49 points) and Monmouth (38 points)... Marist was
represented at each position on the Preseason All-MAAC Team. Senior J.D. Recor was at attack, junior Gannon Morrison
was a midfielder, senior Frankie Brier was a member of the defensive unit and redshirt junior Brian Corrigan was the
goalie.
2016 IN REVIEW:
The Red Foxes were 9-7 overall and 4-2 in MAAC play last season. They entered the postseason as the
no. 2 seed and competed in the MAAC Championship final for the third straight season before falling to regular season
champion Quinnipiac... Marist led the MAAC in shot percentage (.298) and had the no. 14 ranked scoring defense in the
country, allowing 8.56 goals per game.
MAN ADVANTAGE:
Marist went 17-for-28 on the man up for a .607 conversion rate, the second highest percentage in
Divsion I history.
EXTRA TIME
: The Red Foxes went 2-4 in six overtime contests last season... In the 2016 season opener they hosted Air
Force in a four-overtime battle that was the longest game in Division I last season. J.D. Recor fed Gannon Morrison with 20
seconds left in the fourth quarter to tie the score at six... The two victories came on the road at Michigan on March 23 and
at no. 8 Stony Brook on April 12. Stony Brook became the highest ranked opponent ever defeated by a Marist team.
NEWCOMERS:
The Red Foxes welcomed 11 new freshmen in the offseason. Three of them were ranked in the top 40 at
their position by Inside Lacrosse Magazine. Joe Tierney and Jon Constant came in at no. 36 and 39 respectively at attack
and Peyton Smith ended up no. 11 on the list of top 15 faceoff men.
SWITCH ON THE SIDELINES:
Assistant Coach Ian Farley will begin his first season in 2017. Farley previously served as the
assistant men’s lacrosse coach at John Carroll University. He graduated from Sacred Heart in 2015. Farley was a team
captain for the Pioneers his senior year, recording 19 points in 13 games.
FAREWELLS:
Marist graduated six seniors in 2016, including the program’s all-time leading scorer in Joseph Radin... Radin
was the program’s all-time leading scorer with 166 goals. He put up more than 50 goals in each of the last two seasons and
broke the MAAC single-season scoring record with 55 in 2015. He was the MAAC Offensive Player of the Year the last two
seasons... Radin became the first MLL Collegiate Draft choice in Marist Lacrosse history when he was selected in the sixth
round, 45th overall, by the Charlotte Hounds on January 22, 2016... In December he was selected in the 10th round, 88th
overall, by the New York Lizards in the MLL Supplemental Draft.
INSIDE LACROSSE HONORS:
Inside Lacrosse Magazine selected Recor and Corrigan as 2017 Preseason All-American
Honorable Mentions...
Recor finished 24th in the nation in assists per game (1.73) and shot percentage (.415) last season.
He tied his career high with five assists in Marist’s overtime victory against Stony Brook and assisted on the game-winning
goal in the MAAC semifinal game against Monmouth to reach the century mark for his career... Corrigan was named 2016
MAAC Defensive Player of the Year after his first season as the team’s starting goalie. He ranked second in the nation in
save percentage (.588), seventh in saves per game (11.75) and eighth in goals against average (8.14).
HOT HAND:
Recor enters the 2017 season with an active 28-game point streak, tied for 14th longest in the country with
teammate Gannon Morrison and Princeton’s Gavin McBride.
THE NATURAL:
Gannon Morrison will move from midfield to his natural position at attack. He begins the 2017 season
looking to extend a 28-game point streak that puts him in a three-way tie for the 14th longest active streak in the nation.
EC34:
Senior captain Jimmy Murphy became the third Marist player chosen to wear the no. 34 jersey for an entire season
in honor of the late Red Fox Eddie Coombs. Coombs past away in a car accident in 2011. He and Murphy were high school
teammates at Hatboro-Horsham High School in Pennsylvania
