For whatever reason, it appears to be hard to win two straight games in the Princeton-Johns Hopkins series. As good as one team looks one year, the other one comes right back the next. It doesn't matter if it's overtime, a blowout, back-to-back blowouts, back-to-back close ones. Whoever won last year isn't likely to win this year. The trend continued in 2018, as Johns Hopkins put together a dominant second half to break open a close game and sprint away from Princeton 16-9. Though Hopkins now leads the all-time series 58-30, the last eight years have been a little closer. If you're wondering, here's who's won year-by-year from 2011 to now: Princeton, Hopkins, Princeton, Hopkins, Princeton, Hopkins, Princeton, Hopkins. Princeton defeated the Blue Jays 18-7 a year ago on Sherrerd Field. This time, it was a close one at halftime, which ended with JHU up 6-5, and then all Blue Jays after intermission. Johns Hopkins won 20 of 28 face-offs on a chilly, windy night at Homewood Field and turned that into a 52-30 edge in shots. NOTES * Princeton was led by Michael Sowers, who had three goals and three assists and who now has 97 career points in 18 career games. Sowers was Princeton's honoree for the Chris Gardner Player of the Game Award, honoring a former JHU lacrosse player who passed away from cancer as a sophomore in college. Johns Hopkins' winner was Hunter Moreland, who won 20 of his 25 face-offs. * Phillip Robertson had two goals on two shots, continuing his amazing streak of not having missed a shot this year. Robertson is now 8 for 8 this season and 11 for 12 for his career. He also had an assist in the game. * Connor McCarthy had his third career two-goal game. Chris Brown continued his strong start to his career with a goal and assist and now has four goals and seven assists in three games. * Emmet Cordrey had his fourth goal in the last two weeks. He had three for his career prior to that. * Princeton is back on Sherrerd Field for three games in the next two weeks, starting Tuesday night against NJIT. Rutgers comes to Princeton next Saturday, March 10, and then Penn is in for the Ivy opener March 17.
