Third-ranked Albany beat No. 8 Syracuse, 15-3, before 7,238 fans in the Carrier Dome on Saturday.
Jamie Trimboli, Nate Solomon and Kevin Hutchings scored for the Orange, while 'Cuse goalie Dom Madonna had a Syracuse career-high 11 saves.
"Obviously, I'm disappointed with how we played today," said head coach John Desko. "I have to give a lot of credit to Albany, and I told Scott Marr that afterwards. Their faceoff guy gave them all those extra possessions and it really put a strain on our defense. Hats off to him, he played great. He made a lot of good decisions and scored a goal.
"All in all, I thought we didn't do a bad job defensively for the amount of possessions they had and the time that they had the ball at the offensive end. That's a tremendous stress on our defense and I thought some guys did a good job with their individual matchups, especially at the beginning.
The Danes victory snapped Syracuse's five-game win streak against Albany. The last time Albany beat Syracuse was a 16-15 double overtime win in 2013.
Trimboli opened the scoring in the game on a man-up goal assisted by Matt Lane with 11:50 left in the first quarter. Albany scored the next seven goals take a 7-1 lead with 11:22 left in the third quarter. Tehoka Nanticoke scored three goals and Jakob Patterson had two in the run.
Syracuse's Solomon broke up Albany's offensive streak with a fastbreak goal on an assist from Brendan Bomberry with 6:02 left in the third quarter, making the score 7-2. Albany responded to score the next six goals, including two by Nanticoke and another pair from Connor Fields, to take a 13-2 lead with 12:12 left in the game.
Syracuse's Kevin Hutchings scored his first goal of the season with 7:46 remaining in the game to make the score 13-3. Albany closed out the scoring with two more goals for the final score of 15-3.
The Orange will host #12 Army on Saturday February 24th at 2 pm in the Carrier Dome. Season and individual game tickets are available online (www.Cuse.com), by phone (888-DOME-TIX), or at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B).
