- Junior attackman Luke McCaleb (Oakton, VA) scored four goals and handed out three assists to help Brown lead from start-to-finish in a 19-8 non-league win over Holy Cross Tuesday evening at Kuzniewski Field. The Bears improve to 3-3 with the victory, while Holy Cross falls to 1-7 overall. Brown junior middy Michael Panepinto (Needham, MA) and junior attackman Carson Song (Charlotte, NC) each scored three goals and distributed two assists. Bears' sophomore goalie Phil Goss (San Francisco, CA) had seven of his 11 saves in the first half before being substituted with 7:43 remaining in the game. Holy Cross was paced by Sean Mullaney, Kevin Kodzis and Drew Babiak with two goals each. The Crusaders out-shot the Bears by a 43-33 margin, but Brown had a 31-28 advantage in ground balls. Brown's offense was rolling from the outset, jumping out to a 5-1 lead on two goals by McCaleb and one each by freshman Riley Stewart (Darien, CT), freshman Jack Kniffin (Darien, CT) and Panepinto. A Holy Cross goal by Babiak at the 4:03 mark cut Brown's lead to 5-2 after one quarter. Goals by McCaleb and Stephen Hudak (Rydal, PA) lifted the Bears to a 7-2 advantage early in the second quarter, before Holy Cross answered with two goals to cut the Bears' lead to 7-4 following a goal by Babiak at the 7:11 mark. Brown extended its lead to 11-4 with a 4-0 run to close the half on goals by sophomore Levi McCrady (Pittsburgh, PA), Song, Panepinto from midfield into an empty net on a Holy Cross 10-man ride, and Song once again with 44 seconds left. The Bears' offensive onslaught continued with a 5-1 third quarter run on goals by junior Jackson Newsome (Arlington, VA), senior LSM Jake Miller (Heartland, WI), McCaleb, Panepinto and Brian Prigmore (Vancouver, WA) for a 16-5 lead after 45 minutes. The Bears return home for the 51st meeting with New England rival UMass on Saturday, March 24. All the action starts at 12:00 noon at Stevenson-Pincince Field in a game televised on NESNplus and the ILN. Notes: Freshman George Grell (Short Hills, NJ) scored his second collegiate goal for the Bears, wearing the familiar #4 worn by Tewaaraton Award winner Dylan Molloy '17…The 19 goals scored by the Bears are a season high…The Bears now hold a 17-0 series advantage over the Crusaders.
