Seniors Jack Wilson (2g, 1a) and Hayden Ruiz (1g, 2a) each tallied three points, but the Boston University men's lacrosse team suffered a 10-8 setback to Navy on Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field. HOW IT HAPPENED BU (2-2, 0-1 PL) scored the first three goals of the game to take a 3-0 lead with 3:41 left in the opening quarter. Navy (2-2, 1-0 PL) responded with five straight goals of its own to take a 5-3 lead early in the second quarter. The two teams combined for a strong defensive effort in the remaining 9:47 of the stanza, and the score remained 5-3 at halftime. BU then went on a four-goal run to open up a 7-5 advantage in the third quarter. Ruiz found Hilburn on a man-up chance to cut the Navy lead to 5-4 before junior Brendan Homire connected with Wilson for a 5-5 score. Wilson then fed junior James Burr for a 7-6 lead with 6:34 left in the third quarter. Sophomore John MacLean added another marker for the 7-5 advantage, but Navy answered with two straight goals to tie the game, 7-7, early in the fourth frame. Wilson made it 8-7 with 10:25 left, but Navy once again tied it with 7:49 to play. Both teams got big defensive stops, with sophomore Joe McSorley (12 saves) coming up with a huge stop in transition to keep the game tied. The Mids grabbed the lead for good when Greyson Torain scored with 59 seconds left. BU forced a late Navy turnover, but the Mids kept BU from clearing and then scored into an open net in the final seconds to secure the victory. WILSON'S STREAK IN TACT Wilson moved his point streak to 47 games thanks to his three points. He has only been held without a point once in his entire career. In those 47 games, Wilson has tallied 78 goals and 47 assists for 125 points. Wilson has scored seven goals in the last two games. LIPTON HAS A MONSTER DAY Senior Isaac Lipton had a career day on defense for the Terriers. He recorded career highs in ground balls (4) and caused turnovers (5) on Saturday. Lipton now has 12 ground balls and six caused turnovers this year. GAME NOTES Seven different Terriers recorded a point and seven different players had a caused turnover. Gray also had four ground balls in addition to his goal. Senior Joe Stucky won seven faceoffs and had two ground balls. NEXT UP: BRYANT The Terriers will return to non-conference play on Tuesday night when they travel to Bryant. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
