Jacksonville, Fla. – A five-goal first quarter and six-goal fourth quarter pushed Furman to a 15-9 win over Jacksonville on Saturday afternoon at D.B. Milne Field in Jacksonville, Fla. The win moves Furman to 4-6 on the year and 3-0 in SoCon play, the best conference start in program history, while the loss drops the Dolphins to 0-9 on the year and 0-3 in SoCon play. David Williamson continued his strong sophomore campaign, netting a team-high four goals on the afternoon. Stephen Wierzbkick added three goals, while William Holcomb tallied a goal and a team-high four assists. Seven other Paladins registered in the scoring column and Alec Van de Bovenkamp picked up his third SoCon win of the year, making 11 saves. Jacksonville was led by Mitchell Parker with three goals, while Shawn Ewert added two goals and two assists. Furman opened the scoring with back-to-back goals by Lou Yovino and William Holcomb to take a 2-0 lead with 8:00 to go in the first. The Dolphins rallied to tie it at two, but Furman used three-straight goals in the last 1:30 of the quarter to open a 5-2 lead. The Dolphins cut the lead to two with 11:45 to go in the second period, before Stephen Wierzbicki netted back-to-back goals to push Furman's lead to 7-3 with just under 8:30 remaining in the half. The Dolphins cut the lead to three with 6:43 to go, before David Williamson notched his second goal of the day to give Furman the 8-4 halftime lead. The teams traded goals to open the third quarter, before Jacksonville cut Furman's lead to 9-7 heading into the fourth. Furman opened the fourth quarter with four-straight goals to stretch the lead to six at 13-7 with 8:33 remaining. Jacksonville ended the run and cut the lead to five with 7:53 to go, but the Paladins responded with a goal by Finn Barry to push the lead back to six at 14-8. Jacksonville used a man-up goal to cut the lead to 14-9, but Williamson picked up his fourth goal of the day with 1:16 to go to give Furman the 15-9 win.
