FINAL SCORE: No. 15 Vermont 14, UMass Lowell 7 BURLINGTON, Vt. – Liam Limoges netted five goals and Ben French added four goals and one assist as the 15th-ranked Catamounts took a 14-7 win over UMass Lowell Saturday afternoon at Virtue Field. Vermont improves to 10-1 on the season and 3-1 in America East play while UMass Lowell falls to 5-6 overall with a 2-2 mark in conference play. With the win, the 2018 squad reaches double-digit wins for the seventh time in program history, and first since the 1997 season. French opened the scoring 56 seconds into the game and Limoges doubled Vermont's lead less than two minutes later. Dawes Milchling picked up Vermont's third goal before Limoges netted his second of the game with 6:53 left on the clock. Braiden Davis scored his ninth of the season to cap off the Catamount run to begin the game. UML's Harrison Morrill scored the first River Hawk goal with two minutes left in the opening quarter. Liam Rischmann gave the Catamounts a 6-1 lead at the break with his seventh goal of the season in the final minute of the quarter. Sean Tyrrell scored UML's second goal of the contest just 13 seconds into the second quarter. French scored his second of the game just seven seconds later off the ensuing faceoff and completed the hat trick less than a minute later to make it 8-2 Vermont. Limoges continued the theme with consecutive goals of his own, pushing Vermont's lead to 10-2 with 8:18 left in the half. A pair of River Hawk goals in the final three minutes of the half gave the Catamounts a 10-4 lead at the break. Nick Washuta made a pair of saves in the opening half while Hunter Braun made four stops for UML. Morrill cut the Vermont lead to 10-5 with his second of the game with 12:45 remaining in the third quarter. Limoges tallied his fifth goal of the game and 20th of the season off a feed from Charlie Cobb less than two minutes later to push UVM's lead to 11-5. French scored Vermont's lone man-up goal for his fourth of the game with 9:50 remaining in the third. Rob Hudson grabbed the assist on the play for his first point of the afternoon. Neither team scored for the remainder of the quarter with Washuta making three stops to keep UML off the board. UMass Lowell scored a pair of goals in the opening minutes of the final quarter to get back to within five, but goals from Jack Knight and Hudson pushed the Vermont lead back to seven and the Cats would take a 14-7 final over the River Hawks. Washuta finished the game with eight saves and recorded his 10th win of the season. Hunter Braun made 10 saves for UML while Grant Lardieri made a single save in relief. Washuta is just the fifth Catamount goalie to record 10 wins in a single season. Erdmann finished 15-for-21 at the X with a team-leading eight ground balls. He also grabbed an assist on French's second goal of the game, winning the faceoff and grabbing the ground ball before dishing a pass to French for the goal. Andrew Simeon and James Leary each recorded three caused turnovers as Vermont produced a season-high 17 CTs against the River Hawks. Graham Bocklet, Mark Marciano, and Warren Jeffrey each added a pair of CTs. Ian MacKay finished the game with one assist, pushing his consecutive point streak to 57 games, the fourth longest active streak in the country. With the victory, the Cats Win, Community Wins campaign and Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate another $100 to the Boys and Girls Club of Burlington, bringing this year's total to 55 wins and $5,500. Vermont travels to Long Island to take on the Stony Brook Sea Wolves next Saturday, April 14. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.
