Hofstra senior goalie Jack Concannon broke the CAA Championship single game saves record with 22 stops but the top-seed Minutemen of Massachusetts went on a 6-1 run in the first half and went on to a 10-6 victory over the fourth-seed Pride in the first semifinal of the Colonial Athletic Association Championship at Garber Field Thursday night. The Pride end their season with a 6-8 record while the Minutemen advance to Saturday's CAA title game against the winner of Thursday's second semifinal between second-seed Towson and third-seed Delaware. Concannon broke his own Hofstra career-best as well as the CAA mark with the 22 stops, topping his 19 saves against Providence in 2017. He also broke the CAA mark of 20 set by Penn State's Austin Kaut against UMass in 2009. Pride senior Dylan Alderman tallied three goals and one assist while junior Jimmy Yanes added two goals. Freshman Dylan McIntosh tallied the other Pride goal. UMass was led by Jeff Trainor with two goals and three assists while Buddy Carr added two goals and two assists. Jake Lisauskas also added two goals for the Minutemen. In a see-saw first quarter UMass struck first just 38 seconds into the game as Trainor gave the Minutemen a 1-0 lead. But the Pride answered with goals by Alderman and McIntosh to take a 2-1 lead at the 7:08 mark of the first quarter. UMass then went on their 6-1 spurt in three goal sets broken up by a Hofstra goal by Yanes to take a 7-3 lead in the third quarter. The Pride would score three of the next four goals as Yanes notched his second of the game and Alderman added two more to close to within two at 8-6 with 4:15 to play in the fourth quarter. But the Minutemen scored twice in the final 1:33 to seal the 10-6 victory. Notes - Thursday's game was the 45th meeting between Hofstra and Massachusetts.
