It was a game of records Saturday afternoon at Stevenson-Pincince Field with sixth-ranked Yale coming away with a school record 27 goals in a 27-15 win over Brown, clinching at least a share of the Ivy League title and the top seed in the upcoming Ivy League Tournament. The win lifts the Bulldogs to 9-2 overall, 5-0 in the Ivy League, while Brown falls to 5-5 overall, 2-2 in Ivy play. Brown junior Jackson Newsome (Arlington, VA) scored a career high five goals to pace all scorers. Senior Stephen Hudak (Rydal, PA) and sophomore Levi McCredy (Pittsburgh, PA) netted two goals each for the Bears. It wasn't a good day for the goalies, with Brown sophomore Phil Goss (San Francisco, CA) making 15 saves in 44:00, while allowing 19 goals. Junior Acie Newton (Baltimore, MD) registered three saves for the Bears. Yale's Ben Reeves had four goals and three assists to lead the Bulldogs. Joseph Sessa added four goals and an assist, while Jack Tigh chipped in with three goals. The Bulldogs out-shot the Bears by a 67-41 margin and had a 45-40 advantage in ground balls. Bears' senior Ted Ottens (Wilton, CT) captured 16-of-32 face-offs, but Yale had an overall 22-21 advantage in the face-off x. Hudak scored two goals and freshman George Grell (Short Hills, NJ) added another to give Brown an early 3-1 lead. Yale went up 6-4 on an unassisted goal by Reeves, but Brown held a 7-6 lead with 10 minutes left in the second quarter on a score by junior Michael Panepinto (Needham, MA) and back-to-back goals by Newsome. The rest of the game was all Yale with the Bulldogs out-scoring the Bears,15-3, over the next 27 minutes to pull ahead by a 21-9 margin on Reeves' fourth goal of the game with 12:42 remaining in the fourth quarter. Brown hosts cross-town rival Providence College in an evening contest on Tuesday, April 17 at Stevenson-Pincince Field, starting at 7:00 pm. The game will be aired live on NESNplus.
