Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team overcame heavy snow and an upstart Robert Morris squad as it posted a 12-11 victory on the road on Saturday afternoon. The Hoyas remain undefeated on the season and improve to 2-0 for the first time since the 2014 campaign. Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) led the Blue & Gray with four goals and two assists for six points while Jake Carraway (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) added four goals and an assist for five points. Craig Berge (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) chipped in with two goals and two assists for four points and both Austin McDonald (Olney, Md./Georgetown Prep) and Lucas Wittenberg (Kennesaw, Ga./Harrison/Mercer) tallied two points each with Matt Behrens (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) chipping in a goal. Peter Tagliaferri (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley) put together a dominating faceoff performance, winning 16-of-25 (.640) trips to the `X". He added a game-high 11 ground balls and is the first Hoya to collected at least 10 GBs since 2015. Nick Marrocco (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) had another sharp game between the pipes. He collected nine saves on the day despite near-snowblind conditions for the final three quarters of the game. A tight contest from the get-go, Georgetown jumped on the board first with a goal from Carraway at the 12:52 mark. Robert Morris (1-2) responded with back-to-back goals to take their first, and only, lead of the game before consecutive goals from Bucaro and Berge gave the Hoyas a 3-2 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Trading goals throughout the second frame, the Colonials looked to have evened the score at 5-5 going into halftime with a late goal with 36 seconds remaining. Georgetown had other ideas as Tagliaferri won the ensuing faceoff courtesy of a ground ball by Massimo Bucci (Ithaca, N.Y./IMG Academy) to allow a timeout by the Hoyas for a final attempt at the cage. Coming out of the huddle, Carraway found the back of the net, courtesy of a Wittenberg assist with three ticks remaining to give the Blue & Gray a 6-5 halftime lead. Georgetown came out firing in the third quarter, notching three-straight goals in just over three minutes of action. Robert Morris responded with a man-up goal, the first against GU all season, before Behrens answered right back to make it 10-6. The Colonials closed out the stanza with back-to-back goals within 49 seconds of each other to cut their deficit to 10-8 going into the fourth. In the final frame, RMU scored first at the 8:25 mark to pull within one goal, down 10-9. Georgetown followed suit and earned some breathing room with consecutive goals from Bucaro and Carraway, the latter of the extra-man variety, to lead 12-9 with 3:05 to play. Robert Morris pushed to very end, netting goals at the 2:08 mark and with 12 seconds left to make it 12-11, but Tagliaferri came up big on the final faceoff as Kieran Jenkins (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) hauled in the ground ball to seal the Georgetown victory. Jimmy Perkins and Matt Schmidt led Robert Morris with three goals each. The Hoyas continue their road swing as they face No. 18/19 Towson at Johnny Unitas Stadium on Saturday, February 24, at noon. The game will be broadcast live on the Lax Sports Network
