A four goal run in the final quarter wasn’t enough as No. 13 Villanova (8-4, 1-2 BIG EAST) fell to the Georgetown Hoyas (8-4, 2-2 BIG EAST) 13-11 on Saturday afternoon. Christian Cuccinello got the Wildcat’s started netting back-to-back unassisted goals to put Villanova up 2-0 early. Georgetown’s Daniel Bucaro, who netted five goals on the day, scored three of those goals in the first quarter. Connor Kirst netted one in the first for the Wildcats and Lucas Wittenberg also netted one for the Hoyas to give them a 4-3 lead. Georgetown netted a goal quick in the second but Keegan Khan got the Wildcat’s back into the game netting two goals less than a minute a part to tie the game at five. The Hoya’s Wittenberg and Bucaro both found the back of the cage after putting them up two. The Wildcat’s trailed 7-5 going into the locker room at halftime. Jack Carraway for Georgetown netted four straight goals in the third to give them a six goal lead with just over six to play in the quarter. Danny Seibel got Villanova going again netting two goals before the end of the quarter making the score 11-7 Georgetown. Four different Wildcats found the back of the cage in the fourth quarter to help rally and bring the game within one. Georgetown scored the first goal of the final quarter but Cuccinello completed his hat trick to get the run started. John Kluh, Colin Crowley, and Kirst all scored in just over a minute time span to make the score 12-11. With the 30 second warning clock called on Bucaro was able to score what would be the final goal of the game to make the final 13-11. The Wildcats will continue BIG EAST play next weekend when they travel to St. John’s. Game time is set for 1:00 P.M. in Queens, N.Y. and can be seen on ESPN3.
