Senior Danny Seibel was the hero once again as he netted the overtime winning goal for the Wildcat against Fairfield on Saturday afternoon to make the final 13-12. Seibel and freshman Keegan Khan netted 12 of the Wildcats 13 goals, each had six. It was Seibel who netted the first Villanova goal to tie the game up at one on a dish from Christian Cuccinello. The score was 1-1 at the end of the first. The Stags scored early in the second quarter to take the lead again but the Wildcat’s answered back netted the next five before halftime. Cuccinello set up Devin McNamara for the first in the run. The next two were netted by Khan and the final two by Seibel to make the score 6-2 at halftime. Fairfield answered back in the third netted two quick just over a minute in before Khan put a stop to the run netting two. The Stags closed out the quarter on a four goal run lead by Colin Burke’s two assists and Travis Fords two goals to tie the game up at eight. Burke kept the Fairfield offense going in the fourth dishing out an assist on a man up opportunity to give the Stags the lead. Khan ended that lead scoring two in less than 30 seconds, with the second goal being assisted by Cuccinello. Over three minutes later Seibel netted his fourth on a pass from Colin Crowley to put Villanova up by two. Ford answered back for the Stags to bring the game within one but Seibel would find the back of the net once again on a pass from Cuccinello with just under 1:30 to go. Fairfield would score two to tie it up with just over a minute remaining in regulation forcing overtime. After TJ Comizio got the ground ball off the OT faceoff Colin Crowley found Seibel just over 30 seconds in to net the game winner. Villanova closed out non-conference play with a 7-2 record. Matt Webster had a team high five caused turnovers while Comizio, Seibel, and Chris Donovan had four ground balls each. Nick Testa picked up his sixth win in goal this season and finished with 11 saves. Villanova will open BIG EAST play next weekend when they travel to Milwaukee, Wis. to take on the Marquette Golden Eagles. Game time is set for 12:00 P.M. ET.
