The Army West Point men's lacrosse team suffered a 9-7 setback to Lehigh Saturday afternoon. The Black Knights rallied in the third quarter with a 3-0 run, but four by the Mountain Hawks in the final frame put them out of reach for the upset. Conor Glancy fired up the Cadets' offense in the third with two of the three scores. Nate Jones led Army with three points on a goal and two assists, while Ted Glesener tallied a pair of scores. Johnny Surdick led both squads with five caused turnovers. He also had five groundballs in the attempt. HIGHLIGHTS & GAME NOTES Army falls to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the Patriot League. Army's goal scorers on the day were Miles Silva and Matthew Donovan. The Black Knights saw six of their seven goals assisted. David Symmes was held scoreless in the game, but produced two helpers to boost the offensive effort. Sean O'Brien and Surdick also notched assists for Army. AJ Barretto made five saves in the game. Dom Ricca tied his career-high in ground balls with four today. Barretto, Glesener and Silva each picked up two groundballs. Lehigh's Andrew Pettit led both sides with five goals. Both teams scored on man-up opportunities. Army topped Lehigh in shots (33-29), but the Mountain Hawks held advantages in groundballs (28-23), faceoffs (12-8) and saves (9-5). Jones is closing in on the 100-career point mark and boasts 91 after today's three-point performance. Glancy, Symmes and Jones have all posted at least one point in every game so far this season. TURNING POINT The Mountain Hawks' 4-0 run in the fourth quarter, with three goals coming from Andrew Pettit, put the game out of reach for the Black Knights. HOW IT HAPPENED The Black Knights came out strong with two goals less than two minutes apart. Donovan and Glesener got Army on the board halfway through the first quarter with high shots on James Spence. The Leopards bounced back however with their first 4-0 run of the game that stretched between the first and second frames. Jones cut Lehigh's lead to one (4-3) with a goal from the left side assisted by Symmes. Lehigh tallied another to put itself ahead 5-3 heading into the third quarter. The Cadets posted three unanswered goals in the 15 minute stretch with Glancy scoring two and Glesener one. The senior captain netted the Army's fifth goal to tie the game off a crisp pass by Jones, and then the go-ahead goal 1:18 minutes later. Surdick set up the play for Glancy when he stripped the ball and stick from the Lehigh attacker at the edge of the box and coasted to Army's offensive zone where he found Glancy who finished the job. Lehigh went on to score four goals in a row in the fourth to put the game out of reach for the Cadets. Silva recorded Army's final goal of the game with 5:47 after picking up a groundball off a deflected shot, but the Black Knights could not break the two-goal lead by Lehigh. UP NEXT Army is back in action next Saturday at 12 p.m. when Holy Cross comes to Michie Stadium.
