Hofstra sophomore Ryan Tierney recorded a career-high seven assists but Lehigh junior Andrew Pettit tallied three goals and four assists and classmates Tristan Rai and Lucas Spence each posted five points to lead the 12th-ranked Mountain Hawks to a 13-8 victory over the 19th-ranked Pride at James M. Shuart Stadium Tuesday night. Hofstra, which saw its four-game winning streak snapped, slips to 4-3 on the season while Lehigh improved to 7-2 on the season. Tierney's seven assists were the most this season by a Pride player and equaled the most by a Hofstra player since 1995. Senior Brendan Kavanagh tallied his first hat-trick of the year with three goals while junior Jimmy Yanes and freshman Dylan McIntosh each added two. Senior goalie Jack Concannon made six saves in the Pride cage. In addition to Pettit, who equaled his career-high with seven points for the third time, Lehigh received three goals and two assists from Rai and two goals and three assists from Lucas Spence. Sophomore Andrew Eichelberger and senior Nolan Apers each added two goals while freshman goalie James Spence made six saves in the Mountain Hawks goal. The Pride jumped out to a 3-0 after the first 10:53 with McIntosh, Kavanagh and Yanes scoring goals for the Pride. But the Mountain Hawks rallied back with two goals in the final 34 seconds by Pettit and Rai to close the deficit to 3-2 after one quarter. After Hofstra boosted its lead to 4-2 on Kavanagh's second of the contest at the 11:21 mark of the second quarter, Lehigh went on a 5-0 run over a span of 9:34 in the second and third quarters to open up a 7-4 lead in the third. Rai had two goals in the Lehigh run and Pettit added his second of the contest in the spurt. The two teams exchanged goals with Moeser scoring for the Pride and Pettitt getting the hat-trick for Lehigh to bump the score to 8-5 with 8:20 to play in the third quarter. But the Pride wasn't through as Hofstra went on a three-goal run over a 4:19 span to tie the game at 8-8 with 1:17 to play in the third. Kavanagh started the spurt with his third of the game and seventh of the year, followed by McIntosh's second of the contest and 11th of the year and Yanes' second of the game and 13th of the season. But Lehigh threw another dagger in the final minute of the quarter for the third consecutive quarter as Andrew Eichelberger tallied his second of the game with 0:09 remaining in the third to break the 8-8 deadlock and start another five-goal spurt for the Mountain Hawks that put the game away. Hofstra returns to action on Saturday, March 24 when the Pride travel into Queens, New York to face the Red Storm of St. John's University at 1 p.m. Notes - Tuesday's game was the first meeting between Hofstra and Lehigh since 1990. It was the Mountain Hawks first victory over the Pride. Hofstra still leads the all-time series, 5-1. - Ryan Tierney's seven assists for Hofstra were the most since Kevin Jacobs tallied seven against Delaware in the 1995 season opener. The school record for assists in a game is nine, set by Joe Masone against Trinity in 1953. - Yanes, McIntosh and Tierney extended their consecutive game points streak to five games with Yanes recording five straight games with goals and Tierney now posting five straight contests with assists. - Kavanagh recorded his first hat-trick of the season and the fourth of his career - Tuesday's game was the Pride's fourth contest this year against a top 12 opponent.
