BOSTON - The Boston University men's lacrosse team suffered a 7-6 setback to No. 19/17 Lehigh on Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field. HOW IT HAPPENED Lehigh (8-3, 5-1 PL) scored the lone goal of the first quarter as each goalie made four saves in the opening 15 minutes. BU (5-6, 1-4 PL) opened the second quarter with two straight goals to take a 2-1 lead. Senior Hayden Ruiz began the run when he fought off a check and ripped a shot into the top corner for his 10th goal of the season just 1:03 into the stanza. Junior Thomas Schmidt notched his first goal of the year just 1:10 later when senior Jack Wilson found him wide open in an unsettled situation. Lehigh answered with three straight goals to end the quarter and enter halftime with a 4-2 advantage. The Terriers came right out of the gate with a four-goal run to start the third quarter. That run began off the opening faceoff. Freshman Kevin Snyder won the faceoff and got the ball to sophomore Chase Levesque. He ran into the box and fed freshman Chris Gray, who quickly found Wilson in front for the score just 15 seconds into the quarter. Wilson then connected with junior James Burr with 10:43 left to tie the game, 4-4. Gray factored on the next two goals, as he first found sophomore John MacLean during an EMO. He then gave BU a 6-4 edge when he rolled from X and finished for his 19th goal of the year. Lehigh cut the deficit to 6-5 with 1:52 left in the third quarter and then tied it just 1:27 into the final frame. Neither team was able to score until Lehigh broke the deadlock with 38.1 seconds remaining in regulation. Mickey Fitzpatrick collected a rebound and quickly fired home a goal. Lehigh then won the ensuing faceoff and killed the remainder of the clock. WELCOME BACK, CHASE Levesque made his first appearance since Feb. 10 and made quite the impact as the Terriers' starting long pole. He matched his career high with six ground balls and also recorded a career-best four caused turnovers. Levesque also collected six ground balls in the season-opening win over Providence. In just three games, Levesque has totaled 12 ground balls and eight caused turnovers. WILSON'S POINT STREAK CONTINUES Wilson extended his point streak to 54 games with his three-point effort (1g, 2a). He has only been held without a point once in his career. In those 53 games, Wilson has tallied 94 goals and 54 assists for 148 points. Wilson has tallied 23 goals and 10 assists for 33 points this year. He has found the back of the net in each of the last 10 contests. ANOTHER PRODUCTIVE DAY FOR GRAY Gray extended his streak of multi-point games to seven straight contests thanks to his goal and two assists. He leads the Terriers with 49 points thanks to 19 goals and a team-high 30 assists. Gray is the first Terrier in program history to record at least 30 assists in a single season. GAME NOTES Facing off against Conor Gaffney, who entered the game having won 61.8 percent of draws, Snyder went 8-of-12 at the X and collected four ground balls in a strong performance. Freshman Sean Christman was 2-of-5 on the afternoon with one ground ball for BU. Sophomore Joe McSorley made 10 saves and added three ground balls. This was the sixth game in which he allowed nine goals or fewer and it was his fourth straight contest with 10 or more stops. Senior Isaac Lipton caused two turnovers and collected two ground balls. Burr finished with two points (1g, 1a), his seventh straight multi-point game of the season. The junior attack has yet to be held off the score sheet this year (27g, 9a). In addition to his three points, Wilson also gathered three ground balls and had one caused turnover. NEXT UP: ARMY WEST POINT BU will close out the home portion of its 2018 schedule on Saturday, April 7, when the Terriers host Army West Point on Senior Day. Game time is set for 3:15 p.m., with the game being nationally televised live on CBS Sports Network.
