Cornell scored the first 10 goals of the game and the Big Red evened its record with a dominant 18-2 win over Central New York rival Binghamton this evening at Schoellkopf Field. Cornell improved to 2-2 with its 13th consecutive win over the Bearcats. Clarke Petterson and John Piatelli both had hat tricks before Binghamton got on the board 6:07 into the second quarter. Both finished with career highs, as Petterson ended the day with five goals and Piatelli had four goals to go along with two assists. Jonathan Donville (one goal, four assists) had five points and Jeff Teat finished with one goal and two assists. Christian Knight, the reigning Ivy League Player of the Week, had another spectacular outing with nine saves and just one goal allowed in the first three quarters to pick up the win. Parker Henderer and Caelahn Bullen both saw time in relief of Knight with Henderer allowing the final Binghamton goal and Bullen making his first career save. In front of the goalies, the Big Red defense was outstanding, forcing 16 Bearcat turnovers, and holding the visitors to an 0-5 performance on its man-up opportunities. Both Dom Doria and Fleet Wallace had a pair of caused turnovers, while long pole Brandon Salvatore sparked transition with two ground balls and a pair of assists. In the face-off circle, the Big Red went 12-of-24, with Paul Rasimowicz winning 8-of-15 restarts with four ground balls. Cornell also cleared the ball successfully 21-of-22 times and went 1-of-2 on extra man chances. Binghamton (0-6) got one goal apiece from Kevin Fuchs and Sean Gilroy. Austin Macchi won 11-of-20 face-offs and Kevin Carbone notched five saves and allowed nine goals over the final 41:18 of play. We came out fast and put goals up on the board early … and we finished strong. All in all, it was a good answer to Sunday's disappointment.
