Sophomore John MacLean's fourth goal of the game just 27 seconds into overtime lifted the Boston University men's lacrosse team to an 8-7 victory at Bryant on Tuesday night at the Bryant Track & Turf Complex. WELCOME TO THE PARTY, PAL MacLean scored his second overtime-winner of the season Tuesday night, as he ripped a shot into the top right corner with 3:33 left in overtime. Just as he did in the season-opening win against Providence, Gray assisted on MacLean's overtime goal. This was MacLean's second four-goal game of the season; he also tallied four goals in the aforementioned overtime win over Providence. THE BUILD-UP TO THE HEROICS MacLean tied the game, 7-7, with just 2:07 remaining in regulation off a feed from Gray. The Bulldogs had the last possession of the fourth quarter, but a great defensive stand capped by freshman Malcolm Glendinning's caused turnover forced overtime. Freshman Sean Christman won the opening faceoff of overtime with a key ground ball before running into the offensive zone and calling timeout. HOW IT HAPPENED After Bryant opened the scoring with 12:10 left in the first quarter, senior Jack Wilson got BU on the board halfway through the frame. Wilson then assisted MacLean to give the Terriers a 2-1 lead with 2:43 left. The Bulldogs responded to make it a 2-2 game after 15 minutes and then took a 3-2 lead early in the second stanza. BU tied it when senior Ryan Hilburn cut to the cage and converted a feed from Wilson, but Bryant got the final goal of the half to take a 4-3 lead into the break. Junior James Burr opened the third quarter with his first goal of the game to tie it, 4-4. Bryant earned the game's first two-goal lead at 6-4, but MacLean made it 6-5 with 13 seconds left in the third frame. Burr tied it, 6-6, with 10:47 left in the fourth quarter, but Bryant made it 7-6 with 3:28 left before MacLean stole the show. WILSON'S STREAK IN TACT Wilson moved his point streak to 48 games thanks to his three points. He has only been held without a point once in his entire career. In those 48 games, Wilson has tallied 79 goals and 49 assists for 128 points. Wilson has scored eight goals in the last three games. MCSORLEY MAGNIFICENT IN THE CAGE Sophomore Joe McSorley matched his career high with 13 saves on Tuesday night. He made six of those stops in the second half. McSorley also gathered three ground balls. The sophomore netminder has averaged 12.2 saves per game this season. LIPTON HAS ANOTHER MONSTER GAME After posting career highs in ground balls (4) and caused turnovers (2) on Saturday against Navy, senior Isaac Lipton was once again great on Tuesday. He bested that career high in ground balls with five against Bryant while also adding two caused turnovers. Lipton now has 17 ground balls and eight caused turnovers this year. WANT A GOAL? ASK Chris Gray FOR THE BALL Gray posted a career-high four assists on Tuesday night in addition to a ground ball and a caused turnover. Three of those assists came in the second half, and all three assists led to goals that either evened the score or gave BU the lead. Gray leads BU with 10 assists and 17 points this season. GAME NOTES BU improved to 6-0 in overtime games. The Terriers remained perfect in man-down situations, killing the only penalty they took on Tuesday. BU is now 8-for-8 in man-down scenarios. Glendinning finished with two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Senior Brian Badgett gathered three ground balls and also forced two turnovers. NEXT UP: AIR FORCE The Terriers will head to Colorado Springs for a non-conference game against Air Force on Saturday. Game time is set for 2 p.m. ET, noon local.
