The Stony Brook men's lacrosse team held on to pick up its first win of the season, topping Fairfield 11-9 Saturday afternoon. The Seawolves move to 1-4 on the year, while the Stags now sit at 1-4. Nagle's Reaction "It was really great for the guys to bounce back and get a win today," said head coach Jim Nagle. "I felt we pulled together and played for each other for the first time all year. We have lots of lacrosse left to play." Highlights - The Seawolves got things going early on as senior Kyle Abdellatif (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) put away a pass from freshman Patrick Kaschalk (Windsor, Ontario), and sophomore Tom Haun (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) made it a 2-0 lead less than two minutes later on a feed from classmate Harrison Matsuoka (Calgary, Alberta). - Stony Brook added two more scores in the first quarter before the Stags were able to get on the board with two minutes remaining in the opening period. - Kalschalk got a goal of his own 11 seconds into the second quarter, and junior Owen Daly (East Rockaway, N.Y.) battled through the defense to make it a 6-1 game in the Seawolves' favor. - The two teams traded goals following the emphatic start, and junior Ryland Rees (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) closed out the half with his third goal of the season with 12 seconds on the clock. - Production slowed in the second half, but Kaschalk notched the first hat trick of his career as he buried his final goal of the day just inside the five-minute mark. Senior Tyler Anderson (Wading River, N.Y.) won the ensuing face-off and took it straight to the cage for his first goal of the season. - Fairfield closed out the game with five straight goals, but Stony Brook held strong and never lost its lead. Notes - Kaschalk led the way for the Seawolves, finishing with three goals and two assists. - Rees led the defensive efforts, finishing with four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. - Haun notched the 14th multi-point game of his career with two goals and an assist. - Sophomore Michael Bollinger (Hobrook, N.Y.) made his second start of the year in goal. He played the complete game and tallied double-figure saves for the first time this season, finishing with 13 in the win. Up Next The Seawolves return to action on Saturday, March 10 to host nationally-ranked Virginia at 1 p.m.
