Hempstead, NY – Hofstra sophomore Ryan Tierney and senior Alex Moeser each had two points but Fairfield's Travis Ford scored his ninth goal of the season with 21 seconds to play and break a 4-4 deadlock as the Stags recorded a 5-4 Colonial Athletic Association victory over the host Pride at James M. Shuart Stadium Friday night. Hofstra slipped to 5-5 on the season and 1-1 in the CAA while Fairfield snapped a two-game losing skid to improve to 4-8 overall and 1-1 in the CAA. Tierney had a goal and an assist while Moeser added two assists for the Pride. Seniors Dylan Alderman and Brett Osman, and junior Jimmy Yanes tallied the other Hofstra goals. Senior Jack Concannon made nine saves in the Pride cage. Junior Colin Burke tallied two goals while Ford, Drew Murray and Nick Panara added solo scores for the Stags. Freshman goalie Max McGuire recorded eight saves in the Stags goal. The Pride won everywhere except on the scoreboard, outshooting Fairfield, 30-22, picking up 26 ground balls to the Stags 16, and winning 10 of 13 face-offs. After a scoreless first quarter, Fairfield's Drew Murray opened the scoring just 1:23 into the second quarter off a pass from Dylan Beckwith for a 1-0 lead. The advantage was short-lived as Tierney tied the game for the Pride with his 19th of the year from Alex Moeser just 1:25 later. Compared to the first two quarters, the third quarter saw a bevy of goals as the Stags took a 2-1 lead just 1:14 into the period on Spencer Noonan's first goal of the season. Hofstra responded with three unanswered goals, from three different players, to open up a 4-2 lead. First, Alderman tallied his sixth of the year, from Moeser, at the 11:43 mark to tie the game. Then, senior defender Brett Osman tallied his first career goal, off a pass from Tierney, to give the Pride a 3-2 advantage with 9:37 to play in the period. Yanes then ended the run with his 16th of the year at the 3:08 mark to boost the Pride lead to 4-2. The Stags came back with three goals in the fourth quarter to win the contest. Burke brought the Stags to within one at 4-3 just 2:23 into the quarter with his 12th goal of the season. Burke then tied the game at 4-4 almost five minutes later. After Burke tied the game, Hofstra had a chance to break the deadlock but had a turnover in their offensive box. On the winning goal, Ford took a pass from Joe Rodrigues in the middle of the box and sent a low screamer past the Hofstra goalie with 21 seconds to play. Hofstra returns to action next Saturday, April 14 when the Pride host Delaware for a CAA contest at Shuart Stadium. Game time for the Senior Day tilt is 1 p.m.
