Senior Jack Wilson and junior James Burr each tallied three goals, but the No. 20 Boston University men's lacrosse team suffered a 15-9 setback to No. 7/8 Ohio State on Saturday afternoon at the Woody Hayes Athletic Complex. HOW IT HAPPENED Ohio State (2-0) led, 7-0, after the first quarter. BU (1-1) settled down in the second stanza and eventually got on the board when Wilson converted a feed from sophomore John MacLean. The Terriers held the Buckeyes to just three goals in the second quarter and faced a 10-1 deficit at halftime. BU responded with a four-goal flurry to open the second half, beginning with two goals from Burr. Wilson cut the deficit to 10-4 before senior Ryan Hilburn scored to make it a 10-5 with 9:33 to play in the quarter. The Terriers had a chance to tally a fifth straight goal but OSU got a stop and then went on a three-goal run to establish a 13-5 advantage. Burr's third of the quarter made it 13-6 entering the final 15 minutes. A man-up goal by Wilson just 18 seconds into the fourth quarter cut the Buckeye lead to 13-7, but OSU tallied twice more to regain an eight-goal cushion. Junior Brendan Homire and freshman Chris Gray each scored in the final moments of regulation to secure the 15-9 score. TOUGH START, BETTER FINISH BU outscored the Buckeyes, 8-5, in the second half. After winning just one faceoff in the first 30 minutes, senior Joe Stucky and freshman Sean Christman combined to go 10-of-15 at the faceoff X in the second half. Six of those wins came in the third quarter as the Terriers climbed out of their nine-goal deficit. Christman finished with a career-best three ground balls. WILSON'S STREAK IN TACT Wilson moved his point streak to 45 games thanks to his hat trick. He has only been held without a point once in his entire career. In those 45 games, Wilson has tallied 74 goals and 46 assists for 120 points. Wilson also gathered five ground balls on Saturday. BURR KEEPS HOT HAND After a two-goal, two-assist effort in a Feb. 3 win over Providence, Burr kept his momentum going on Saturday with his hat trick. He now has five goals and two assists for seven points in two games this year. GAME NOTES Sophomore Joe McSorley made a career-high 13 saves on Saturday and also had a career-best six ground balls. Gray, Hilburn and Homire all notched a goal and an assist apiece. Freshman Malcolm Glendinning earned the first caused turnover and ground ball of his collegiate career. Fifteen different Terriers recorded at least one ground ball. Ohio State netminder Matthew Smidt made 15 stops. NEXT UP: DARTMOUTH BU will have next weekend off and return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 20, when the Terriers welcome Dartmouth to Nickerson Field. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
