VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton men's lacrosse team (6-1) defeated Vermont (4-5) 8-5 in an America East matchup at the Bearcats Sports Complex Saturday afternoon. Binghamton moves to 2-0 in conference play and is currently riding a five-game win streak. The senior class paced the Bearcats in the victory. Tyler Deluca scored two goals, Tom Moore netted one goal and added three assists, Garrett Waldron picked up four ground balls and caused four turnovers and Tanner Cosens had eight saves in the net. "Vermont came out with a great game plan. They played zone defense and stymied us a little in the first half," said Head Coach Kevin McKeown. "But as the game went on we started finding out spots better and getting our shots off. Defensively, our team did a really great job today and Tanner had some amazing saves in the second half. We are happy to move to 2-0 in the conference but our work is not done." Vermont got on the board first scoring with 10 minutes left in the first period. Matthew Kaser quickly answered for the Bearcats with a goal on a pass from Moore to end the period with the score tied 1-1. In the second period the Bearcats added two quick goals by Stephen Petrelli and Tyler DeLuca before Vermont scored three straight to make the score 4-3 at the half. The Bearcats held the Catamounts scoreless in the third period to go on a four goal run. Joe Grossi scored his first goal of the season with 13:56 remaining and Joe Licata netted a goal of his own at 7:55. Moore scored his first goal of the game and 22 of the season on a pass from Liam Reaume and Griffin Konen closed out the period scoring with one second left on an assist from Moore to put the Bearcats ahead 7-4. Both teams were scoreless for the first nine minutes of the fourth quarter before DeLuca scored a man-up goal for Binghamton on a pass from Sean GIlroy with 5:30 left in the game. Vermont tried to claw back scoring with three minutes remaining to put them within three but Binghamton controlled the lead to claim the victory. Austin Macchi won nine of 16 faceoffs and picked up three ground balls for the Bearcats. Joe Grossi was a strong factor for Binghamton as well, picking up four ground balls of his own.
