The Pride had five players tally three points or more and senior goalie Jack Concannon made nine saves as Hofstra rolled over #8 North Carolina, 12-6 at James M. Shuart Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Pride defeated the Tar Heels for the third consecutive year to improve to 2-2 on the season. North Carolina, which dropped its second consecutive contest, falls to 6-2 on the year. Hofstra, which jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the third quarter, received two goals and two assists from sophomore Ryan Tierney, three goals from freshman Dylan McIntosh, two goals and one assist from senior Alex Moeser and one goal and two assists from both senior Dylan Alderman and junior Jimmy Yanes. Senior Brendan Kavanagh, who returned to the Pride line-up after missing the previous two games with an injury, added two goals. Hofstra All-American goalie Jack Concannon made nine saves including six in the second half to stave off any comeback attempt by the Tar Heels. The Hofstra victory is Pride Head Coach Seth Tierney's 100th career victory at Hofstra. He is now 100-66 during his 12-year tenure at Hofstra. UNC was led by senior Chris Cloutier with two goals and one assist while senior Matt Cunningham added two goals. Sophomore Jack Pezulla made nine saves in the Tar Heels' cage. After taking a 1-0 lead on Moeser's first goal of the\ season in the first quarter, the Pride came out roaring in the second quarter with six goals to take a 7-0 lead at the break. Moeser added his second just 1:33 into the second and five different goal scorers, Kyle Gallagher, Tierney, Yanes, Alderman and McIntosh, followed with goals to the seven-goal advantage. McIntosh would add his second just 38 seconds into the third quarter before Cloutier put the Tar Heels on the board 1:59 into the period. But Kavanagh and Tierney answered with goals for the Pride to boost the lead to 10-1 with 6:26 to play in the period. UNC then responded with three consecutive goals, two by Cunningham and one by Cloutier, to close the gap to 10-4 after three quarters. Hofstra would stop the momentum on goals by McIntosh and Kavanagh before UNC closed out the scoring with goals by Morris and Rowlett. Hofstra returns to action on Tuesday, March 13 when the Pride host the Hawks of Monmouth at James M. Shuart Stadium.
