After holding NJIT to just four shots in the first half, the No. 12 Army West Point men's lacrosse team topped its opponent 14-5 at Michie Stadium Tuesday evening. Nate Jones recorded his second straight hat trick, while Sean O'Brien, Conor Glancy, Matt Manown, Ted Glesener and David Symmes all added two goals apiece. John Ragno went 12-for-13 on the faceoff and captured eight groundballs in the effort. Jon LaMonica led the way on defense picking up five ground balls. Army held NJIT scoreless for 30 minutes of the matchup. HIGHLIGHTS & GAME NOTES AJ Barretto was Army's starting goalie and is now 3-0 against the Highlanders. This was the third meeting between Army and NJIT. The Black Knights allowed just five goals which is a low in the series. Today's hat trick by Jones was the fifth of his career and the second of the 2018 season. Joe Alberici earned his 105th win at Army and is now 3-0 over NJIT. It was his 115th all-time victory as a head coach. Army is now 2-0 at Michie Stadium this season. The senior class has 34 wins in their careers. The Black Knights held NJIT to 0-for-2 on man-up opportunities. Connor DeWitt tallied his first career point for the Black Knights with an assist on Army's third goal of the game. Jimmy TenBrink joined in the scoring frenzy with the first assist of his career. Jeremy Angle netted his first goal of the year in the win, while Austin Colvin recorded his first assist of the 2018 season. Glancy, Manown, Evan Condon and Nickolas Edinger also notched helpers in the game. Manown's three caused turnovers was a career-high. LaMonica tied a career-high in caused turnovers with two on the day and tied his career-high five ground balls. Half of Army's goals were assisted in today's contest. As a team, the Black Knights boasted a .957 efficiency on faceoffs and went 2-for-3 on the man advantage.
