With the win, which is the Seahawks' second straight, coming on the heels of Monday's 15-3 victory over Hampton, the Green & White improves to 4-5 on the season while the Highlanders are now 0-11. After falling behind by an early 2-0 count, Wagner cut the deficit in half late in the first quarter, before outscoring the Highlanders 4-0 in the second quarter in taking a 5-2 lead at the intermission. With Wagner on top 6-2 early in the third quarter, the Highlanders went on a 3-0 run, bridging the third and fourth quarters, capped by Ryan Kaden goal with 13:37 left to play in making it a 6-5 game. Wagner answered with an unassisted blast by senior midfielder Joe Lomeli from 10 yards out at the 12:02 mark which gave Seahawks a 7-5 cushion. Both defenses took over from there, as neither side could find the net the rest of the way as the Seahawks held on for the win. Senior attackman Andrew Streilein, junior midfielder Kevin Gray, and junior attackman Davis Prince all finished with one goal and one assist for the Seahawks, while freshman midfielder Tyler Grady added one assist. Defensively, junior Kevin Doherty recorded a team-high three caused turnovers while junior midfielder Connor Davis led the way in ground balls with four. NJIT was led by a hat trick from Aaron Forster while Kaden and Cole Robillard added one goal apiece. The Highlanders won the faceoff battle by a sizeable 14-1 margin, but the Seahawks forced NJIT into committing 15 turnovers while turning the ball over a season-low five times themselves. Wagner's man-down defensive limited NJIT to just 1-of-7 accuracy on extra-man opportunities while the Seahawks were a perfect 2-of-2 on their EMOs. In addition to leading the nation with that .615 save percentage, Sefcik entered tonight's play ranked No. 3 nationally with an average of 13.38 saves per game. As a team, Wagner entered the game ranked No. 25 nationally with a stingy 9.05 goals against average. Following tonight's defensive performance, Sefcik and the Seahawks figure to move up in this week's NCAA rankings. The Green & White are next in action on Saturday, March 31 when the Seahawks return to Northeast Conference (NEC) play to host the Saint Joseph's University Hawks.
