(U-M Lacrosse Stadium) Score: Michigan 12, Marquette 7 Attendance: 625 Records U-M (5-2), Marquette (3-3) Next U-M Event: Wednesday, March 21 -- at No. 4 Notre Dame (South Bend, Ind.), 4 p.m. ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team remained perfect at home with a 12-7 win over the Marquette Golden Eagles on Saturday (March 17) at U-M Lacrosse Stadium. Freshman Kevin Mack led the Wolverines with five goals on the afternoon, and finished the contest with six points. With the score tied at 1 at the 11:05 mark of the first quarter, Michigan (5-2) used a 5-0 run to lead, 6-1, after the first quarter, with Mack scoring three times in the quarter to go along with a pair from junior Brent Noseworthy, who finished with four goals. U-M took an 8-4 lead into the half after Marquette (3-3) outscored the Wolverines, 3-2, in the second quarter. The Wolverines put an end to the Marquette run with back-to-back goals from junior Rocco Sutherland and Mack to bring the lead to 10-4 at the 6:34 mark of the third. Marquette then scored twice to bring the score to 10-6 with 2:45 to go in the third, but it proved to be the closest the Golden Eagles would get the remainder of the contest. Noseworthy went on score two more goals in the fourth quarter to bring the eventual final count to 12-7. Senior Tommy Heidt made his first start of the season in goal and made 10 saves. U-M also controlled possession the majority of the contest thanks to a 12-of-22 effort from freshman Connor Cronin at the dot. He chipped in five ground balls, while senior midfielder Chase Young stuffed the stat sheet with two goals, one assist, four ground balls and a caused turnover.
