Bryce Wasserman's program-record breaking 73rd career goal broke an 8-8 tie with nine seconds remaining to lift the Monmouth University men's lacrosse team past UMass Lowell on Saturday afternoon at Cushing Field. Similar to last season's comeback win against the River Hawks, Monmouth trailed 7-5 with 2:44 to play in the third quarter, before scoring four of the final five goals to secure the victory. Griffin Figel started the run before Hunter Jones scored his third and fourth goals of the game surrounding the quarter break to put Monmouth up 8-7. UMass Lowell tied the score with 3:19 left, before Wasserman's heroics. The game-winner was set up by one of Noah Lode's program-record tying 16 saves with a minute to play and Garrett Pfeifer's chase down of the resulting rebound to give Monmouth the decisive possession. NOTES & QUOTES "We've had a tough week with injuries and today's game certainly wasn't pretty, but I'm glad that we found a way to get the job while playing a lot of new guys this afternoon. Noah Lode was great in the goal and came up with a few big saves when we needed them. Down the stretch we leaned on our veterans on both sides of the ball to execute and get the win." - Head Coach Brian Fisher - Monmouth leads the all-time series with UMass Lowell, 2-0. - The victory was Monmouth's second consecutive road win. - The Hawks are now 7-5 all-time when tied after the third quarter. - Monmouth is 8-12 all-time in one-goal games. - Monmouth is 2-2 all-time against America East opponents. - Monmouth won its first game (1-2) when wearing chrome helmets with midnight blue jerseys and shorts.
