– Hofstra sophomore Ryan Tierney tallied four goals but Delaware sophomore Charlie Kitchen recorded a game-high five goals including the game-winner with 6:05 to play to lead the Blue Hens to a 10-9 Colonial Athletic Association victory over the host Pride at James M. Shuart Stadium Saturday afternoon. Hofstra, which dropped its second consecutive game, falls to 5-6 on the season and 1-2 in the CAA. Delaware improved to 5-6 overall and 2-1 in conference play. In addition to Tierney's four goals, Hofstra received two goals and one assist from senior Dylan Alderman and one goal and two assists from junior Jimmy Yanes. Senior goalie Jack Concannon made nine saves in the Pride goal. Kitchen added an assist to go with his five goals for the Blue Hens while junior Joe Eisele added three goals. Senior Will Hirschmann chipped in with two assists in UD's winning effort. While the Pride found themselves down 6-1 in the first quarter and 8-3 in the second, Hofstra battled back in the contest to tie the contest at 9-9 with 8:28 to play in the fourth quarter. But Kitchen's fifth goal of the contest and his 28th of the season with 6:05 to play, on a great individual effort coming around the cage and beating Concannon, gave the Blue Hens the eventual victory. On Senior Day at Hofstra, the Blue Hens jumped on the Pride with four goals by four different players in the first 6:43 to build a 4-1 lead. Bryce Reid, Eisele, Kitchen and Bieda dented the twine for UD and then Kitchen added two more for the 6-1 advantage. But Hofstra chipped away scoring four of the next six goals, with Tierney scoring twice, senior Alex Moeser and Alderman notching his second of the game to close the gap to 8-5 at halftime. Senior Brendan Kavanagh and Yanes scored the first two goals of the third for Hofstra before Kitchen tallied his fourth of the contest with 21 seconds left in the third to keep UD ahead 9-7 after three quarters. But Tierney scored consecutive goals at the 12:45 mark and the 8:28 mark to tie the contest at 9-9 before Kitchen gave the Blue Hens the eventual game-winner. Hofstra will close out their 2018 regular season with two games on the road over the next two weekends as the Pride will travel to Philadelphia to face Drexel next Saturday, April 21 at 2 p.m. Hofstra will close out the regular season with a road game at Massachusetts on Friday, April 27 at 5 p.m. Notes: - Hofstra still leads the all-time series with Delaware, 30-13 although the Blue Hens snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Pride. - Ryan Tierney recorded his 10th career hat-trick at Hofstra including the fourth this season. - Jimmy Yanes and Ryan Tierney extended their consecutive game points streaks to nine games each while Dylan Alderman and Alex Moeser extended their to six games each. - Alderman currently has a six-game goal scoring streak. - Hofstra honored its 18 graduating seniors in pregame ceremonies. - The Pride closed out their 2018 home schedule with a 3-4 slate.
