The New York Tech men's lacrosse team was dealt its first defeat of the 2020 season on Saturday afternoon as the Saint Anselm Hawks topped the Bears, 16-7. Saint Anselm got off to a hot start, building a 7-1 lead by the 9:09 mark of the second quarter. However, the Bears would rattle off four straight goals in a 4:20 stretch to close the half at just a 7-5 deficit. Lenny Innamorato scored three of those goals in the half. The momentum the Bears created heading into halftime, however, would not continue into the second half. Saint Anselm opened the third quarter with three consecutive goals. The Hawks' Ryan Richards scored twice and tallied three assists in the win. Matt Ward would score a hat trick for the Hawks. Freshman goalie Brendan Watt would make 17 saves for the Bears and CJ Hart would make 16 for the Hawks. Brian Hoerter and Carnell Lofton Jr. would combine to win 15 of 27 face-offs, but the Hawks were able to capitalize more consistently in the offensive zone. Matt Murphy added two goals and one assist. Tech will be back in action next Saturday, Feb. 29 at #7 Seton Hill. Face-off is slated for 12 p.m. in Greensburg, Pa.
