The Palm Beach Atlantic men's lacrosse team closed out their road swing with a game at North Greenville this afternoon. The Sailfish came into the game with a 2-2 record but fell 15-10 against the Crusaders, dropping their second consecutive game. The Sailfish competed in their first game since they lost their All-SSC and All-American defender Gunner Gebelein to injury, but early on the PBA defense held firm. The 'Fish defense limited the Crusaders to three goals in the first quarter which included a NGU buzzer beating goal with one second left. The Sailfish offense was the side that got off to a slow start. Austin Evans scored 30 seconds into the game before the Sailfish went 15 minutes without finding the back on the net. The Sailfish fought back in the beginning of the second quarter when Zack Figura scored his second goal of the contest to tie the game 5-5 with eight minutes left. From that point on, the Crusaders scored the final four goals on the quarter to take a 9-5 lead into the locker room. Austin Evans and Zigura led the 'Fish with two goals a piece in the first half while the Crusaders were led Thomas Cecere who scored four goals in the first half. Despite the four-goal deficit, the PBA outshot NGU 25-20 and won the faceoff battle 8-7 in the first half. The Sailfish made a change at goalie to start the third quarter, inserting freshman Sam Malussena between the pipes hoping for a spark to turn the tide. Malussena was able to make nine saves in the second half but the Crusaders outscored the Sailfish 3-1 in the third quarter. PBA peppered the NGU net throughout the fourth quarter attempting to make a comeback but NGU goalie Braeden Dixon came up big making eight of his 19 saves in the fourth quarter. PBA was never able to cut the deficit below five in the final quarter before ultimately falling 15-10. Austin Evans led the Sailfish attack scoring four goals while defender Teagan Hersh picked up eight ground balls and caused four turnovers. Both Sailfish faceoff specialists were solid on the day with Noah McKoeun winning 8-of-14 while Corbin Schneider won 9-of-14. The Sailfish will look to get back on track when they return home to face Emmanuel on March 11. The Lions are currently 3-4 on the season.
