Junior goalie John Kiracofe totaled a career-best 17 saves, while junior Bryce Clay had a game-high five goals. Sophomore Josh Zawada also marked four goals and an assist for five points, while junior faceoff man Nick Rowlett went 17-for-28 at the dot with seven ground balls. Michigan (1-4, 1-4 Big Ten) collected its first win of the season and the fourth win over a ranked team in program history. It also is the second Big Ten win over a ranked opponent in program annals. U-M fell behind, 2-0, early before rallying to take a 4-2 lead at the midway point of the first quarter. Penn State (1-4, 1-4 Big Ten) rattled off five straight goals to take a 7-4 lead midway through the second quarter, but U-M marked a trio, with two coming from Zawada, to tie the contest at 7 at the midway mark of the third. A Dylan Foulds goal at the 8:59 mark of the third gave PSU an 8-7 lead, its last of the contest as the Wolverines rattled off four scores to retake the lead and extend their advantage to 11-8. PSU brought it within a score following a marker at the 10:19 mark of the fourth, but the two sides went on to trade goals the rest of the way and U-M claimed the victory.
