The Chowan Men's Lacrosse team saw their win streak come to an end in a 12-11 defeat against Wilmington at home on Tuesday afternoon. THE BASICS FINAL | Chowan 11, Wilmington 12 RECORDS | Chowan 4-3, Wilmington 4-0 LOCATION | Murfreesboro, N.C. (Hawks Field) INSIDE THE BOXSCORE Austin Lee paced the Hawks with four goals and an assist. Jaxon Martin picked up four points with three goals and an assist. Patrick Egan added three more assists to his nation leading total. Matthew Leone caused three turnovers, while Jacob Ferretta caused five. Slater Bender took the loss in cage with 16 saves. HOW IT HAPPENED First Quarter: Austin Lee put the Hawks on the board just 2:02 into the contest with an unassisted tally. Wilmington countered with a pair of goals to lead 2-1. Patrick Egan found Austin Lee with 2:14 remaining in the period to even the score at 2-all before Lee found Jaxon Martin to lead 3-2. Deven Roberts picked up an unassisted goal to lead 4-2 after the opening 15 minutes of action. Second Quarter: Wilmington scored twice to start the period and even the contest at 4-aside. Deven Roberts and Jaxon Martin scored unassisted goals to push the lead back to two, 6-4. After a Wildcat goal, Jaxon Martin found Patrick Egan for the tally before another two goal swing by Wilmington evened the score, 7-all. Jackson Down gave the Hawks the advantage with an unassisted goal late in the period. Patrick Egan found Austin Lee on the man-up situation to lead 9-7 at the intermission. Third Quarter: Patrick Egan found Jaxon Martin on the man-up for the lone goal for the Hawks in the period. Wilmington used the momentum to lead 11-10 with four straight goals to end the period. Fourth Quarter: Both teams played strong defensively in the final period as Austin Lee scored the equalizing goal with 7:28 remaining. Wilmington would find the go-ahead goal with 2:09 remaining and fend off the Hawks' rally to take the victory. UP NEXT Chowan will battle the Hawks of Shorter on Sunday, March 8.
