CONWAY – Coastal Carolina's Lyla Robinson found the back to lift Coastal Carolina to a 12-11 victory over the College of William & Mary at Brooks Stadium on the campus of CCU. The win improved the Chants record to 5-2 on the season while the Tribe fall to 5-4. With the win the series between the schools is now even at 1-1. Coastal got on the scoreboard first when Haley Kyger (three goals) beat the defense weaving down the center arc with 58 seconds elapsing from the opening draw. Both teams traded possessions before W&M's Lauren Russell evened the score at 1-1 with the unassisted tally with 24:22 mark. Megan Busch picked up the first of her two assists finding Kyger with 21:38 remaining in the opening stanza to put the Chants in front 2-1. Haley Alexander followed an unassisted goal with 18:15 on the game clock to push the lead to 3-1. Alexander picked up her second goal in 29 seconds later making it 4-1 for CCU, with Madeline Bromley getting the dish. The Tribe's Annalise Lower cut the lead in half on the free position shot at the 16:40 mark. Samantha Courtemanche (two goals and one assist) made it 5-2 on the give and go from Busch three minutes later. Alexander followed with her hat-trick goal with 8:15 off the assist from Courtemanche. Approximately two minutes later, Jordan Harrell beat the Tribes' goalkeeper to make it 7-2 in favor of the home team. Maddie Torgerson (four goals and one assist) closed the visitors scoring in the first half with 5:04 remaining in the first half on the free position shot to pull within 7-3. Coastal's Courtemanche and Kyger finished the first half scoring getting tallies with 1:30 and 13 seconds remaining respectively for a 9-3 halftime lead. W&M opened the second half scoring and rally with 27:27 left in regulation when Russell picked up her second goal via free position goal to make it 9-4. Lauren Cremen answered back for the Chanticleers on her lone goal of the matchby virtue of a free position attempt and goal with 26:40 left to play. The Tribe responded with five unanswered goals from Belle Martire (24:51 and 18:27). Torgerson followed with three straight scores (16:57, 16:34, and 15:49) to tighten the score at 10-9. CCU's Harrell pushed the lead to 11-9 with 12:14 remaining in the second half. W&M's Russell picked up her hat-trick with 5:05 off the feed from Olivia Harpel to make it 11-10 in favor of the Chants. Grace Ahonen evened the match up at 11-11 one minute remaining in regulation to force overtime. The teams traded possessions in the extra period, with each team trading a shot in the first three minutes before Robinson weaved around the defense to hit the first game-winner of her Chanticleer career with 1:27 remaining in the second half of the overtime period. Harley Barrett picked up 11 saves while facing 35 shots to improve her season tally to 63 stops. Coastal won the ground ball battle 17-15 with Emily D'Orsaneo picking up four, Barrett getting three, and Megan Kilpatrick and Haley Wells each tallying two apiece. Coastal Carolina will continue its homestand as the Chants will host their ASUN conference opener against Kent State, Tuesday, March 26.
