ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's lacrosse team closed out it three-game home stretch with a dominant 14-6 win over upstate non-conference foe Colgate Tuesday evening at Schoellkopf Field. The result was fueled by a stretch of nine unanswered goals that spanned from the latter portion of the first half to end of tatter portion of the second. Junior goalkeeper Katie MacGahan followed up her big performance against Harvard with another solid outing in net. MacGahan edged her previous season-high of 12 saves, which she set a few days earlier against the Crimson, with a new best of 13. The Atlanta native also allowed a season-low four goals in in net before Samantha Nielson came on in place of her with just over four minutes remaining. Sophomore midfielder Ellie Walsh had a career day, racking up a total of five points on three goals and two assists, all of which are career highs. The Bronxville, New York, native wasted no time getting started. Walsh claimed the opening draw and charged down the field towards the goal before putting home her first of the three goals to put the Big Red (2-2) up 1-0 just 10 seconds into the game. The Raiders (2-4) answered back with a goals from Noelle Patterson that was assisted on by goalkeeper Samantha Croston. Croston slowly brought the ball up past the restriction line and fired a dart up the middle of the field to Patterson who cruised towards the goal to even things up at one with 26:26 left in the opening frame. That would be the closest the contest would be for the remainder of the game. After a 10-minute scoring drought, captains Sarah Phillips and Caroline Allen netted the next two goals for the Big Red to put Cornell back up two. Then, Colgate's Lindsay West found the back of the net with the assist from Danielle Van Calcar to cut the Big Red's lead back to one. Grace Paletta was the next to get on the score sheet with an unassisted tally with 10:46 left in the first half. Roughly a minute and a half later Genevieve DeWinter netted her seventh goal of the season to put the Big Red ahead three.
